Bear Grylls Knife

he stays in hotels?? anyone got a link to info on that?? if true they outta cancel the show,

as far as the knife $600 seems steep to me............

I don't know if you noticed but the new episodes have different diclaimers and says for his safety its mandatory that the crew help him out in certain situations, or whatever, blah blah blah, no big deal...Im not for it or against it, but like when he was in the fast rivers he had a life preserver on under his clothes, and at night in some cases he went back to a hotel with the camera crew for the night, and like in some destinations he was not deep into the wilderness but rather a bit off of a tourist area, but doesn't bother me...I still think its enetratining and he still gives good tid bits about survival wheather or not hes using them is irrelevent to me as logn as they still work, I watch man vs wild for entertainment just like I do survivorman, but with Les strous I tend to listen more to what he has to say, I alwasy liked him better anyway...Im american, but ill take a tough canuck over a soft Brit anyday, lol...

Horn Dog, I think you have more than just a nice ahnd-made wonder steel knife there - You also have a piece of history. Bear was the darling of many before his scandal. Not only is the knife cool and useable, it is a link to the Bear Grylls story which you can pass on with the knife someday. who knows... Perhaps Bear will redeem himself in the eys of many somehow, and the story will have a happier ending.

I like the knife. If I could afford it, I'd consider getting one. I like the sheath setup. Very knife stuff! Congrats! As far as folks asking you if it was worth it, I say as long as you are happy with the piece, it was worth it to you. That's what matters.

I's a nice knife but Limitation on it as survival knife is little too much.
Especially with those money.
However if you want a piece of history..
Should I say if you want a piece of metal with a signature on it!:D

Don't watch him, and have no desire to. Les Stroud on the other hand I watch. Even replays of former shows. As for the knife, are you kiddin me? keepem sharp

I like Les Stroud, too. I already have his knife. It's a Buck 119.

Just saw that last night on the episode where he goes to the rainforest of Alaska, where he stays on the beach/coastline...I like him cause he makes real mistakes, nothing horrible, but like it shows he actually trying new things, and is only human, small errors, or the fact that he might not catch fish show me its real, and that can be expected if you really are on your own...Its just a bit more realistsic to me thats all...

Good looking knife. Let us know how it performs.

Does all your kydex come from the same maker?

No, the Meaner and SS4 sheaths are made by Rainwalker (Jeff), the HRLM sheath is from leatherface (Dave), and the Bravo-1 sheath came with the knife.

Good looking knife. How is the sharpening of that steel?
I don't care about the hotle thing at all. I still really like his show, as long as the info is usefull.

It is a TV show, of course they stay in hotels, you need infrastructure to run a show. The question is not where he sleeps but if the show is good.

We will see. At 60 Rc, it is hard. It is hair flinging sharp right now.

I thought the big flap over Bear occasionally staying in a hotel was a lot about nothing. I have been in swamps and jungles at times when the mosquitos were unbearable (no pun intended). I enjoy the show. It is good TV. I'd like to see Bear's critics try and do some of the stuff he does. I bet that if he did not have the film crew there he would not take as many risks as he does. We already know Bear has enough sense to go to a hotel when the mosquitos are too bad. I'll agree that Les Stroud on Survivor Man is a little more "real" since he does not have the support of TV crew with him, but I still enjoy Man vs Wild. I'm glad I got his knife. I just thought it might be a bit bigger and beefier than it turned out to be. Darned metric system!

Regardless of the scandal and Bear's reputation, I think it's still a very good-looking knife. I'm glad somebody on BF actually bought one and can give us an idea of how it performs.

Keep us posted.

Looks like the general design has some potential.

Price is a little steep, but not completely unreasonable. This is in the realm of Mad Dog, high-end Busse, or nice custom. The exchange rate and shipping add on - now we get to experience some of the suffering that our international friends have when ordering American knives. You did save a bit, since the exchange rate has devalued the dollar (now listing at $717). But it also looks like you're paying about $300 for Bear's etched signature, since the similar Raven model is about 150 pounds less. http://bayleyknife.com/raven.htm I actually like the Raven shape and rounded handles better.

If it works well, then I wouldn't feel bad about the purchase. I'm not sure many $200 knives perform significantly better than a Mora in proportion to their price, but people buy and use them anyway. As long as it works on your belt and you didn't need the cash for something else, then it's fine.

Now y'all know good and well that I never said it was a bargain. But I have it and will soon do a review of it compared with some other similar type knives from Busse, SOG, Benchmade, Swamp Rat, Scrap Yard, and Bark River. Might as well have some fun with it. :D

the other guy, survivorman, he dont need no stinking hotels lol.

i would think being out in the woods, getting ate up by skeeters, being hungry and cold would all be part of bears job description, if after all the commotion over all the BS with the hotels, the pet store bunny, the supposed "wild horses" and everything else he still has a job lol.

i'm very disappointed in him myself, ya know he really wasnt in the SAS??

shame on him..............

I want to see this knife in hand.
It is a fine lookin piece and the sheath is also.
I'm looking forward to your review.
