Bear Grylls Knife

LOL, I was just waiting for an extremely overpriced " Bear " Grylls knife to come out.

seems like there is a " What knife does Bear use " thread on about every knife forum i've seen.

$675!!!? wtf, that thing looks like it should run about $ 65 - $75, the handle looks like a generic extreme ratio handle.

i guess the survival masters name bumped it up a few hundred dollars?

How the hell do they get away with charging that much for that knife? It doesn't even look like a custom knife. $675 (US) for 150 grams of steel is straight up highway robbery. The handle is very plain as well. Nothing custom like inlays or other custom features that require time and intricate work.

I'm sure it's a really nice knife, but there's no way in hell that knife should be sold for anything over $200!

Did anyone see the season opener on Friday night? Did he use this knife?

Since nobody on this forum but me is ever going to buy one of these, I can't see doing another review of it here. I had thought it might be of some general interest because of the popularity Man vs Wild program. For those of you who are shocked by the high price, go check out some other customs when you have the time.

Hey HD, I'm always interested in any of your reviews but if you choose not to do one here I understand and I'll catch it on the other forum !!!!:D:thumbup:

looks nice enough but I wouldn't pay for one. If I had money to burn then maybe...

i can think of a lot of other fixed blade customs which would be imho a lot better investment (also probably a better knife FWIW) than a $600 bear grills knife. believe me a $600 price tag doesnt scare me off IF i think the product is worth the $$..

no offense to ya of course.

I am interested in your experience with it. Could you post some pics of it in action? How has it responded so far?

I have been using it a bit lately. The more I use it, the more I appreciate it. It's a tough little knife. I have split oak with it.

Sliced and notched with it.

Chopped down trees with it.

And made it levitate in thin air....well not really.

I think they should offer a pink version. That's more of a Bear color. If you are going to the wilderness take Les Stroud. If you are going to mall of America and need a guide take Bear. For $600 you should be able to get one in pink.

Nah. If you're going into the wilderness take Kochanski or Mears. Les would be making harmonica noises everytime he passed gas if I had to spend more than a couple of days watching him starve himself.

On second thought, take Angelina Jolie. She'd bring her own knives and be much better company :D.

I think Angelina is dangerous with or without knives. That is part of her charm, that sexy/psycho double personality....

How does it compare to your favorites?

So far it has done very well. I think in that size knife, the BRKT Bravo-1, Swamp rat HRLM, and Scrap Yard Keeper are more rugged, and of course, more reasonably priced. The Bayley is a heck of a slicer, though, right up there with the $10 Mora! I actually bought the Bear knife as a collectable, but couldn't resist using it some. It is hand made and very user friendly. A very handy, easy carrying little knife. The hand made leather sheath is very high quality and carries horizontally.
