...........Gerber Prodigy.

He uses it several times during the new North Africa episode. I've read that he is no longer associated with Bayley knives so I guess he's back to more common pieces.

I always Like watching his series. I always wondered what kind of fixed blade he carried.

I saw that too, it's a lot larger than that little one he had before. Think they staged the scene where he was climbing out of the well? Pretty coincidental that he was so close to the opening don't you think?

Tattooblade, have you actually used the Prodigy?
What is your proof that it is junk?

No, it isn't. Not generally, anyway.

Well, most of their folders are crap, except for a couple. Their fixed blades and multitools are generally okay but there are better ones for the same price. However, the LMF and Prodigy are very good knives.

He went from a $620 custom knife to a $45 production knife. It would be interesting to hear his comparison of the two.

I have a Prodigy and I like it. I picked it up for about $30 at my old job. We had never received them before and then we get them one day and they came to us on clearance so I snagged one.

Based on recent listings I think it is 420HC now instead of the original Sandvik 12C27.

I have not used the Prodigy, however the last 3 Gerbers I owned fell apart, so I won't buy them anymore. The always seem to have great design, but materials and workmanship leave something to be desired.

They can't find a better knife than that? The show is a huge success and brings in millions. They should have at least consider Ka-Bar or Rat Cutlery(ESEE)

Hey, I bought a good Gerber fb - a Stag/S30V Freeman with a leather sheath - see below (Ignore the mighty .22 revolver!):

I received an LMFII as a gift from my oldest son, so I have to keep it. Otherwise, it would have left my 'collection' long ago. The Freeman, on the other hand, is a keeper. Great blade - good hand feel/fit - appropriate size for most woods stomping - IMHO. It is a great example of what Gerber can make - here in the USA... not so much for that LMFII, in my opinion... that serrated blade is a waste. I'll second the RC-4 suggestion, too.

From what I can find Gerber manufactures (or did) two different versions of the LMFII. On was military the other commercial. I don't know when this "split" occurred, but the 420HC "commercial" version began a couple years ago (there'sa good read on it on this site somewhere).
