Bear Grylls ultimate knife... or ultimate failure?

I'm as much of a nobody; as anybody in here... Why???
We all are… but only a few of us can explain why we think the way we do.
I seem to have set off quite a firestorm just by asking people to back up their assertion the knife is trash. This is a knife forum, not Twitter. We can do better.

I’m actually sitting in a recliner, but good guess. I could’ve been standing, and you had a 50/50 shot.
It never crossed my mind that you were one to rest on your....laurels.

Indeed, you must need respite from the thankless toil you've selflessly assumed.

What ever would the forum do with out your furious fingers and prolific reason?

That’s cute. Do you have any comments regarding the Bear Gryllis survival knife, or nah?

The redeeming quality about the knife is that people who buy it are never going camping more than five miles from a convenience store. People who will buy this "rough it" in a Class A RV with a king bed and all the comforts of home.

Yes. This. I think people are offended I dared to ask for the thought process and now what we have is this little war they’ve waged. “Can’t NOBODY ask ME why I think the way I think!!” That is what I’m up against here.
I didn't realize how badly you misunderstood everything that's happened in this thread! Let me see if I can help. No one is offended, you came in and asked why the knife was garbage, a number of people answered you and you continually, in a more and more angry fashion, attempted to disqualify their answers or simply ignored them and asked the same question again.

One fella in the videos seemed to suspect the heat treatment was the culpriy

Hold the phone here! I've only got a Class C rig. Does that mean I need an even tougher knife?!?

Bear cashed in on many endorsement deals. Gerber also did a lot of other product placement (ie: "The Walking Dead"). Between the popularity of his show and the wide availability (including stores where parents take their kids, like Wal-mart, Target, etc), it was a good match for both of them to cash in.

Bear did have a collaboration for a real knife from a real maker. Obviously not something you'd find at Wal-Mart though.

Well I obviously hate the half dozen sharpening choils on that, but with a plain edge it looks pretty good aside from being a bit blocky and chunky with a likely chunky grind

I don’t know, with a golf cart that nice I’d step it up to at least the machete.. but it’s been recalled. Something about being too dangerous!

I guess what I meant was that people buying these aren't going to be doing much more with them than maybe some wood shavings, whittling sticks for hot dogs and cutting some cord. Nobody out there building survival shelters is thinking "Bear Grylls" when they think of a knife they'll take. It's fine for what it is, something on Suburban Dad's hip for when he's doing a poor job at fishing but a great job of relaxing and drinking.

Hey guys, this is supposed to be the General Knife Discussion forum. Not Oprah, not Jerry Springer, and not Montel Williams.

This thread is an embarrassment. If you want a food fight and a free for all go to whine and cheese or take it to PM.

We're done here.

I don't think I need to explain why.

Oh, and by the way...those of you who decide to muddy up the next threads with this b.s....can expect lumps of coal in the form of warning points. You know who you are. (And so do we.)

Happy Holidays.
