Becker BK-7

The BK-2 has a blade thickness of .25 inches (one-quarter of an inch). As you've already found out, the handles are much, much more comfortable than they appear in most photographs, which makes using this hefty blade a pleasure. I've owned and have been using knives since I was about eight years old (I'm in my mid sixties now), and the BK-2 is the best all around knife that I have ever used -- and that's saying something. The knife weighs 14 ounces, which is pretty heavy for a five-and one quarter inch blade, but it's oh so solid. Someone said you could use it to baton through a Buick. My feeling is that after disposing of the Buick, it will still whittle sticks and cut up lunch.

Try it, you'll like it.
Love the BK2! Mines a modded Camillus!

Liked it so much i bought a second Camillus BK2,Put cocobolo handles on the new one.

Still want a BK7 and BK9 though,lol!
:)

Now, that's a pretty BK-2, tholiver! I really like the cocobolo with the brass pins. Nice.

Thanks!
Oops my bad, i posted the wrong pic!D'oh!
Actually that BK2 is Amboyna burl.(with Vinegar patina)
I also have one in cocobolo (but with polished steel), can't find the pic though.
I'll reshoot later when my camera batteries recharge.

Now I'm wanting a BK2 even more lol.

I really like this knife, and I haven't had any real issues with the sheathe. It has a bell shaped opening that's pretty easy to hit and I haven't stuck the knife through the liner yet.

I've heard they've come in different colors, I wouldn't mind getting a tan one myself.

It rained like crazy here today so I didn't get to do much with it. I did check it out at cutting a couple of small saplings though and it did really well.

and this is the best shot of the balance I have been able get so far. I'll try to get another shot tomorrow. This thing has nearly perfect balance but just barely blade heay, and the rounded shape of the handguard makes it near impossible to balance it...or there was some major problems with gravity today ...one or the other because I couldn't get it to be still.

I love the blade shape of the BK-7. I am not a big fan of the plastic feeling handle though.

I don't have a problem with the handle...but I wouldn't mind seeing what the same shaped handle scales made out of a slightly textured micarta felt like.

The new micarta handles will be available at the Blade show, and they will presumably be available online around that time, too. I want to try them out myself.

Supposedly, there will even be micarta scales to fit the BK-11.

Thanks, I hadn't heard anything about that.

Ah! A micarta version...I just might have to get one after all :)

mw...where did you pick that up? I am defintiely interested in picking up that whole kit.

Any chance on seeing some hardwood or stabilized wood scales…

…I think the option of wood handles on the new Becker’s would rock.

Here's the original thread announcing the micarta handles, which includes photos. The same thread also shows prototype wood scales for your viewing pleasure. It was recently announced that the micarta scales will be available at the Blade show at the end of this month. They will, according to Ethan Becker, also be available online from Ka-Bar, but I don't know exactly when. Scales will be available for the BK-11 Becker Necker, too, but I don't know exactly when those will be available either.

As for the wood handles ... well, I have no further info on those. Prototypes were shown, but I have no idea whether they will actually be produced, or not.

Thanks for that link. ;)

That Cocobolo handle looks great.

I was thinking I'd have to make my own, and I still might, but glad to see these new scales in the works.

well thanks mainly to this thread, i pulled the trigger on a KABAR BK 9, I like the looks of the combo deal and for the price, dont think I can go wrong. I have a brute from the original becker line and love it!!

Good choice, jctrapper. The BK-9 rocks. Let us know how you like it when it arrives.

You're all welcome to come over to the Becker forum, you know. The micarta scales were announced a couple of months ago, and it was announced that they were ready just the other day http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=641850

Thanks...I hadn't even thought about there being a Becker forum I'll have to check it out. Thanks for that link also.

I'm guessing stabilized wood doesn't swell and shrink as it gets wet and dries?

Hi moisture and the humidity in this area, along with all the crossing of creeks and the rains have always made wood handles a bad option for my knives.

As promised here is a comparison shot of the BK-13 and BRKT Mikro Canadian.

As you can see they are very close in size.
