Becker BK10... Hollow Tang???

I'm getting super jelly right now... Haha!

Super interesting to see them all next to each other in a more "real life" context.

That BK 2 is definitely stout. Wow. Shorter blade than the BK10, but is it also wider?? Kinda looks like it... And you didn't remove any of the thumb ramps, I see. You don't mind them? Or, perhaps, you find them helpful/ useful??

What wood is that on the handles?

Those are all stock users. They have dyed micarta scales.

Ever thought about convexing that edge??

What is this knives primary use for you?
Every knife I have gets sharpened at the angle that I was taught 50 years ago I don't change things that work. As far as use I usually don't batan big stuff but I split down stuff for kindling , cut limbs rope cantaloupe just anything I need to cut just general purpose fixed blade

I'm confused about the "leverage on the spine..." part.

-You're saying that because the BK10 is shorter than the 9 that it actually takes less stress on impact...?

-T

I'm saying that you're probably putting less stress on the fulcrum of the lever if you baton it because you don't have as much mechanical advantage (if you're whacking out by the tip). But it would depend a long on how you're whacking it.

Imagine chopping WITH it, and striking a branch/log/rock up near the belly on both blades. The longer blade will be moving faster out by the tip and have more mechanical advantage vs. your hand.

Different angles for different steels. But if you're in oldschool carbonland, can't go wrong with that. There's lots of wiggle room until there isn't.

I have developed over the years the ability to hold an angle that works for most knives . I usually work a new knife to that angle . I can adjust to what's needed for other cutting tools. I haven't found much I can't sharpen

In numerical order...

Great pic!

Definitely for the RD series. But the SP series Ontarios are pretty darn comfortable.

i do have the marine bowie and it is significantly more comfortable than their rd knives but still not as comfy as a becker. The spec alpha handles look to be nice too. I do have the cerberus fixed blade and it feels wonderful in the hand.

hmmmm someone said BK7? :D
That woke me up from my corona wintersleep...
Not sure how the topic shifted from skeletonised tang 10's to 7's but it good fo me anyway.
The 7's the perfect size imho, for both (semi) big jobs.. and the finer work too.

About time I can travel and get out to make some new shots. *sigh*

edit: going through my old pics make me realise I 'need' some micarta handles.... they're just too expensive on this side of the pond...

Okay, so playing the Devil's Advocate here:

Isn't the appeal of an Esee the fact that you CAN abuse the knife?? I mean, I get it -And I think a lot of people who abuse their knives, like, insanely are a little silly -But, logically, if one knife is "sturdier" than the other, wouldn't it make sense to get that one?? Especially since we all have the tendency to think of knives in the context of "I am in a survival situation and I need to trust my life with this thing when I'm falling off a cliff..." etc. etc.

I will say that I think the handle design on the Beckers is brilliant -Just beautiful with that end swell. Don't know why everyone isn't doing it...

Becker > ESEE, all day, every day.

Yeah, I'm really interested in trying out the 7, now...

Anybody here ever tried the Kabar Combat Kukri??

I love the heavy front blade design of kukris and actually think they're kinda the perfect "1 tool" design.

At 8", with that front heavy design, I think it would make for a great "easy" chopper...

Smaller than the kabar kukri and the BK 4 is no where to be found. Missing that beautiful Becker handle, though...

I'm curious about it.

Start a new thread??

you mean, something like the KaBar cutlass - which is basically a short bolo?

No. It's actually called the Ka-bar "Combat Kukri":

*Link removed. No deal spotting. Not a paid dealer here*

I linked to the Blade HQ site because they always list the weight of their knives...

sorry - I was thinking of the *Link removed. No deal spotting. Not a paid dealer here* with its 11.5" blade.

I was referring to the *Link removed. No deal spotting. Not a paid dealer here* with an 11" bolo shaped blade.
