Do not shorten that blade. It needs all five inches to baton and make feathersticks.

You don't really need to baton, if you have an axe handy. You would only be able to do smaller pieces with a 4 or 5" blade anywhos, You can featherstick with a 1" blade.

That said, when I thought about doing it, it was because Mr. Kepharts was 4 - 4 1/4" long.
