Becker BK9 surface rust on first day of use

I use Howard's Butcher Block Treatment (maybe not exact name?) on my carbon steel kitchen knives. It's a beeswax/mineral oil combo. A little thicker than oil, thinner than wax. Food safe, of course. So sometimes it gets used on outdoor knives too, 'cause it's handy.
 
I put hot sauce, mustard, lemon juice, and salt in a spray bottle...swirled it around, then added cider vinegar. Sprayed, rested, washed and repeated x 3 (total)

(don't do unless you plan on tossing the spray bottle - or the bottle is intended for disassembly - I had to take it apart after each spraying to clean/clear it...by the end, it was coming out in more of a stream than a spray)
 
A spray bottle experimental patina I did on Tanker 1/66 Tanker 1/66 's BK5. I call it the hotdog patina; ketchup, mustard and relish juice.

Enjoy seeing the forced patinas you guys create. I once posted some of your ideas on a razor forum when someone asked about alternatives to vinegar for forcing a patina.
 
Just an update if anyone is curious.. After a couple months of pretty heavy use I have to say it's great knife. I use oil/beeswax combo and there is literally zero problems with rust. I love everything about this knife, except for the sheath lol
 
Something to bear in mind.... A friend was bitching to another friend that Ballistol was so damn expensive and that friend ran a sample through a a mass spectrometer or gas chromatograph and discovered that it was food grade mineral oil with an additive to make it smell bad....

.Camillus used to protect the factory edge with Vaseline and I use both or either. Johnson’S FLOOR WAX IS GOOD... my current “go to” is Mobil One.... Many competitive shooters are using it and it has worked well for me.....
