Becker Fall Gathering Sign-Up -- September 26-28

Moose and I are planning a toenail painting contest. Followed by a toenail jimping seminar and a foot battle to the death.
 
I will try to attend. My time is not my own and when there is work, I work. Last time I had to go to Raleigh NC on a work run for a couple days. If I attend, I will probably just drive back an forth rather than camping. Ethan, no prep needed for me..... if there is not enough food, I will just not eat and head over to the local restaurant.
 
I don't think there's ever been "not enough food". Pretty much everyone brings extra stuff to share. That's part of the fun :)
 
I would certainly make a contribution to the general cause in one form or another; probably beer and bottled water... :D
 
I'd love to make this one, but I'm not sure if I'll be able too...:( Doesn't look like either of my parents will be options. I guess I could start walking....:D I should look into a Bus.

Yeah, I wish! :D I wonder if I could get one of the Beckerheads that drive through Kentucky to give me a ride for 50 bucks or so. But I doubt anyone will be willing to put up with my for a 5 hour ride, no matter the pay. :p:D
 
I converted 36 pounds of wild plum into various forms of food today - jelly, jam/preserves, plum butter, SWMBO made a plum/custard pie, and there are 5 gallons of Plum Melomel fermenting in the laundry room....... (which will not be ready in time for the fall gathering)
too bad megan moved to the west coast, some of her biscuits would be glorious smothered in cinnamon/brandy plum preserves...
too bad there's no one else around known for mass production of flaky goodness....

Count me as one, in a hammock.

I should be able to scrounge a few pounds of sausage out of the freezer. It's not Benton's, but it's farm raised and everyone seemed to like it last year.

Very true Guyon. The referendum is in November so this y,ear's hunt is still on and everyone here hopes that the referendum will go down. if it were to pass bear will be in backyards, parks and campgrounds in large number. The cover here is so thick that stalking bear will never work!

I have never had the pleasure of eating anything made from wild plums except just plain old wild plums, but that sounds fascinating. Since you already have a knife coming which is 95.5% paid-for, perhaps we could work out some kind of trade. :)
 
In somewhat-related news, Miss Angie wants to know if anyone has any requests for treats she might make for me to bring with and share with you lunatics.

Sorry Ethan, Angie's famous bread'n'butter pickles ain't gonna happen this time; we're already flat out of cukes. :(

But other than that... *shrug*
 
is anyone interested in learning how to make soap?
no, we're not going to show you how to make lye from wood ash - that's nasty, messy, and takes several days to get a good product.
but we can make soap that will be useable as soon as it sets.

James - we can talk.
(some of the jelly has not set yet - so it may be plum syrup...)

that's the current plan.
she's even talking about sleeping in a tent, so I may not be spending time in a tree this round.
 
Heck yeah, I'd be totally interested in a soap seminar. Remind me to bring a notebook and pen.
