Becker Fall Gathering Sign-Up -- September 26-28

Well, I had six knives to bring to the gathering for you guys to play with. Sell them or trade them whatever. But today I visited with a lady I know from Ohio that is a handmade dealer. She has bought several knives from me before and is a huge fan of my Yumas. She totally bought me out of stock. Took everything I had, so, wont be showing up with much as far as sharps go, but will still be bringing my handsome face and my sparkling personality so its not a total loss. :D

Hmm, I think that gal got the better part of this deal. I guess we'll have to settle for your ugly mug. Looking forward to seeing you, Todd. It's been too long.

Triggs tweaked her work schedule and we should be there just after midday on Friday.

Can't wait.

well Todd - at least you know you've got $$ to cover fuel and part of your (I mean Murph & Jerry's) beer bill...

Bring extra beer.

:D

So uh........... I'm guessing you fellas will eat some Boudin if I bring it?

Any particular kind y'all want to try? Last time I brought possum and armadillo boudin and you guys sure did eat it up? Guess I can bring that again since it was such a hit!

Man, one more week. Can't wait. See you guys very soon.

That boudin was awesome. Murph said he liked it so much that if you brought it again he would eat it out of Guyon's butt crack if that was the only way he could get it. :barf: :D

Speaking of Guyon, is it pecan season yet? The wife and I can't get enough of Guyon's Salty Nuts.

No, alas, the pecans are still on the trees. However, I'll see what I can dig out of the freezer.

You must have had an awful lot to start with, if there's any pecans left from last year. Should you ever find you have way too many, let me know... I'll grudgingly volunteer to help you dispose of them properly. Cuz I'm a team player ;)

Well, that's two contests now. Butt crack Boudin eating and zip-lock bag shitting. I sure hope there's no confusion here about which contest is going on.

one should definitely follow the other -- I will disqualify myself from both, though, and offer no advice on what order to proceed with the contests. :D

Man, this is shaping up to be a gathering to remember for sure. Haha. You guys are crazy and the games sound fun but I'm probably just gonna watch.

Gotta prepare for the fire breathing contest too.

Also working on some other eats for you guys as well! Think it might be epic.

So what else is on the agenda? We still learning how to make soap?

Yeah... That, coming from flaming-terrorist-beard-dude. 'Cuz that wasn't crazy at all. Uh-huh, yup, totally normal... ;)

Heck YEAH on the soap seminars. I have very little to add in that regard, but I would be happy to watch/listen and take notes.

Also... firestarting. It may seem like old hat to most of you cats, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't do any harm to review as many techniques/tools as everyone can bring to the table. Ferro-rods, flint/steel, different natural and man-made tinders, magnifying glasses, etc. etc. What could possibly go wrong? :p

yup. specifically, BEER soap.

Sounds interesting. Im in.

That did happen but only once. lol My poor beard still hasn't recovered from that.

Well, it was a little crazy. haha

Did someone say fire starting? Where is my EVERCLEAR? :D

But really, that is a great idea James! I will bring some ferro rods and stuff. Maybe grab some texas cedar bark for some tinder and show y'all how we do it here.

I have some flint and steel and can bring or make there some char cloth or charred punk wood too.

That's exactly what I'm talkin about, brother  I have a good amount of birchbark that Erik sent me, and some other stuff too. Let's all put our heads together on this thing and test whatever we can think of... vaseline and cotton balls, stale Doritos, whatever. Good clean fun.

And if we're not careful, we just might learn something  :D

Also, I have some fully-charred apple and mesquite chips I could bring, plus a couple Altoid tins that RalphT gave me a couple Gatherings ago, and Angie said I could have some of her secret-quilt-stash of denim pieces, so we could try our hand at making char-cloth on the spot...

Do butt-crack nibblings, pecan shells and broken dreams make good tinder? There's only one way to find out.
