Becker forum Knife?

I love the idea of a special edition BK10. I need a little more time to meet all of the requirements for Beckerhead status though!

On the subject of a user...

When you say signed, are we talking on the blade or backside of the scales?

i would imagine the backside of the scales would be signed in sharpy... like so:

and the blade would be likely laser etched custom with the user's Beckerhead number and whatever KaBar wants all special like this:

perhaps

Holy crap! Special Crewman's??? I think an angel just got it's wings. Whatever they turn out to be, "I'm in."

Ok, here's my .02...

I've always kinda had a thing for that stubby looking clip point, but have never come across one to purchase. So if now, after all these years, I have an opportunity to get a BK10 all gussied up with micarta and possibly an Eagle Industries sheath, PLUS my BH# stamped into it...ummm, yeah I'm in.

Here's to hoping that the price will be in the desirable range too... :D

Ok, since the beans are spilled anyway what are we looking at price-wise? I mean give me a ballpark here because in all honesty I was expecting a pretty penny to be charged for such a knife. It it will actually remain affordable that may just change my mind and I'll take it out and beat the crap out of it anyway :)

In all honesty, I don't know what we're looking at price-wise yet. This all started just this morning, so nothing has been firmed up yet. Toooj just asked me to get some feedback, so that's what I've been trying to do.

All I can say is that we're talking about Ethan Becker and KA-BAR here, neither one of which like high prices. On top of that, KA-BAR's doing this as a special for the Beckerheads on the forum, so I don't think they'll be trying to make up their yearly sales budget on this thing.

As I said, I really don't know how they'll be priced, but I'd be really, really surprised if they weren't very reasonable indeed.

As far as using it, I probably would, because I don't believe in safe queens, either.

ETA: And how about an Ethan Becker hair under the micarta...you know...for future cloning experiments.

I was thinking signed on the back side of the scales. He's done that before.

As far as the hair, he doesn't have a whole lot left to donate.:D

I'll be interested in what Ethan thinks of my hair idea...

...no wait. Belay that.

Between the Beckerhead t-shirts and a DNA request, Ethan might get so creeped out that he reconsiders this whole Beckerhead thing. :D

the blanks thing has been mentioned prior. no beans spilled per se. just clarifying that case... still and all, it's by no means a done deal until KaBar and Ethan and everyone agrees.

no point talking about prices or features guys. just bly sky wishful thinking and possibilities (except no custom choppers or such, that's not frugal)

See, I was trying to be clever and circumspect, and not reveal the whole thing. Probably just confused everyone.

And keep in mind, my "I'll take 2 thing", was for kicks. Etched blades are for the Beckerheads, so, if any of ya'll are thinking of sellin' off, right away, you may want to reconsider that.

Only one per customer, til we hear otherwise. Hey, I'm gonna use mine.

I think its a great idea, so, chime in if you want to see this happen.

I'd imagine that, should a Beckerhead Special wind up in hands other than original recipient, a virtual tarring and feathering might ensue. :D
With a designated, numbered blade, I figured it'd be just one per person.

well, we could ask people to swear to not part with it, EVER, or maybe after a year or two and only after defacing it. you wouldn't want someone out their with YOUR number now?

and of course, we could always revoke their number ;) heh heh heh or at least make them PAY WITH THEIR SOULS..... i'm running low on spares ;) special penance required...

my thought is more than this is a VERY special thing for Beckerheads only. if someone wants one bad enough, they'll sign up, toe the line, be one with us... yay! one of us! one of us !

but if someone is looking just to snag one, especially for the rarity or profit, uhm, no :)

i'm getting THREE ;) hahahahaha. well, not really. that's a joke. maybe black mesa.

BK-10 me. Camillus blanks means 01760-6C, so a less common steel these days. Won't be the Dan Maragni heat treatment, but I'll bet Ka-Bar can do something special with it.

well, KaBar has better grinders than Camillus had... and Tooojs magical heat treat is pretty darn special. we got no worries on that account.

whatever they make for us will be amazing

crewman! i'm already drooling. ethan's signature-wise, i'd probably want it on the kydex sheath that way i can drool at it while i'm batoning something :D on a more practical note, as a user i sometimes wash my knives and a signature under the scales might one day disappear from repeated soapy water seeping in.

I get emails from people that go" I want #232, thanks". I'll do a search and they have never been in the Becker forums before, they just want a number. I'll email them back with the reqs, and I get a reply "hell, I just wanted a number, not another hobby, keep it".
Moose

you were a lot nicer to that guy than i would've been had i received that e-mail. i would've replied with "i'm sorry, we don't want you to leave...here, you can have beckerhead #3485"...then quietly laugh that he has a fake number and has no chance at a beckerhead knife :p when the ordering for the special knife comes, i'll e-mail him back with this pic:

yeah, i can be mean to a-holes :o

That's so we don't wind up with people with Beckerhead numbers that don't even have a Becker (you know who you are, but will you tell on yourself)

Hey!!! :grumpy:

I bought 1.5 RATs this week!

... oh ... waitaminute. :o

I'll have to take that as a yes vote. And yes, they are pretty sweet. This would be a chance to get a very unique knife available only to Beckerheads. Yes, there are plans to re-introduce the Crewman sometime in the future, but they won't be semi-custom like these, nor have your Beckerhead number on them.

This would be a limited thing.

You are correct sir - that is a yes. Cool!

Damnable toothpicks. :grumpy: ;)
Oh well, Jeff and Mike knew I was good for it. :p

Okay, since the beans seem to have been spilled, somehow, here's what we're looking at.

KA-BAR has a certain, limited, number of BK-10 blanks left over from Camillus. Remember, folks, there are a limited number of blanks available here. Now, KA-BAR could do a number of things with these blanks — and probably charge a pretty penny for a special run — but instead they offered them to us as a special Beckerhead run. They offered this because they're behind the concept of the Beckerhead group — we didn't even ask.

So what would it be? Well, as has already been pointed out, this would be a special limited offering of a knife like no other has ever been, or, maybe, will ever be again. These are the last of the BK-10's with 01760-6C steel, and I think we can certainly trust KA-BAR to put one of Toooj's superb heat treats on it. This will be a tough, tough knife, people. Even if they just slapped on some Grivory scales and simply let it go at that, this would be a knife worth having.

But they won't. These should have micarta scales, hopefully signed by Ethan. Ethan doesn't know about this yet, but I somehow don't think he'd mind the extra work it takes him to sign them.:D

How about the finish? Well, we're looking at uncoated, possibly vibration finished, blades, or perhaps with a coating other than black. That's not a done deal yet, but they'll be nice.

Each knife would be individualized with the Beckerhead's number.

All in all, these will be truly unique, individualized, knives — the like of which has never been seen before, nor which will ever be seen again.

It's even possible that we can score some original Eagle Industries sheaths for these. There are those who think that the Eagle industries sheaths were, arguably, the best ever made, so it would be nice to get them.

Remember, this would be a limited run just for Beckerheads, and when they're gone, they're gone.

Still looking for feedback here, so let us know what you think.

I like this idea. The Crewman never really did it for me because of the relatively short blade compared to the BK-9, but if I have the money when the time comes, I'd be down for one. Hmm, guess I need to get my number soon.

IIRC Westen used 01760-6C for their carbon steel and of course Camillus did too. Got a few Westerns and one Camillus knife made from it. Good steel IMO.

Don't forget Cold Steel's Carbon V knives. Same stuff, same heat treatment as the Camillus Beckers.
