The idea is simple. Move your body. Get fitter.
It ain't a contest. It's about doing what you can do to get mobile.

Between the dates of April 1 and April 30, the challenge is to earn 50 Becker Points. Points can be earned in the following fashion:

1 mile (1.6 km) on foot = 1 Becker Point
4 miles (6.4 km) road cycling = 1 Becker Point
2 miles (3.2 km) mountain biking = 1 Becker Point
1 mile (1.6 km) swimming = 6 Becker Points

If you just do one thing, you'll need to hoof it 50 miles, or road bike 200 miles, or mountain bike 100 miles, or swim 8.3 miles. But you can combine items to build toward 50 Becker Points in any fashion you choose. Honor system in play.

The reward? You'll feel better, and you'll be participating with a group of supportive peers.

In on one!

walked 4.8km last night then did a chest workout!

road bike driving trailer with 2 children and gear 5miles (1bp), then walked for 2k(1bp). Core workout  = 5total

In on 1April....1600m in the pool yesterday. 6 BP. Hope I can keep this up as I started back working today, which really cuts into workout and fun time.

Got a mile in today. Remembered why I've always felt that running sucks.

Ditto and Ditto. Though it sometimes gets easier, tonight was not one of those times.
2 + 1 = 3BP so far for the month.
Also played an hour of volleyball, but I don't think that counts for much. Except my team was winded and sweating, and I was wondering when the exercise begins. So I guess moving my butt has been helping.

Actually, I know it has. That, and deciding to eat right.
My wife and I began The 17 Day Diet just after the start of the year. A little history - I had lost 40 lbs over the course of a year 3 years ago. My goal was 10 more. I maintained it for 3 years, but could never lose that last 10. I tried to wrangle more info from my Jenny Craig advisor. I did a cross-fit bootcamp. I took up jogging (occasionally, anyway) to compete in a 5K. I just maintained. 2nd week of January the wife says she wants to lose 15-20, will I try this diet with her. So, sure, if she's happy we're all happy.
2 weeks in, I was down that pesky 10. 2 more weeks, another 5. About 3 additional weeks, another 5 fell off. So, now I'm in maintenance. It really is a lifestyle change, not just a diet. But I was already eating right ( = actual food your grandma would recognize) about 90% of the time. My downfall appears to have been extra helpings and evening carbs.

Anyway, it wouldn't have happened without the motivation of the Move Your Butt challenges.

Now, my 90 day MyFitnessPal weight report looks like the 2008 stock market:

So, thanks, guys.

That's awesome! Way to got jswarbrick.

Well letting my legs and body rest for a little bit lasted 2 days. I was planning on running shorter for about a week, but I miscalculated the distance for the route I was planning to run today. I was hoping for about 20km (about 12.5 miles) but I ended up with 24.15km (15 miles). I guess I'll take it easy tomorrow.

15 BP for April

That is awesome tjswarbrick! Very motivating!
These challenges are really great for keeping me going.. I know it is just points, but I can't wait to post them every day.. it is very satisfying.

1.5 mile walk on heavy hills
5 miles bike on fat burn
1.5 mile walk on intervals

4.2+3.2 = 7.4

Thanks guys.
This thread is motivating!
Oftentimes it's late, or cold, or I'm tired and I just want to laze around. Then I remember the challenge and push myself out the door.

Welcome, TBL! If you feel so inclined, we have another thread for calculating resistance/strength exercise points: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1168905-April-Weights-and-Fitness-challenge-thread

Initially, the point system may look complicated, but it's pretty simple. Just add your reps within the different intensity/difficulty ranges, divide by that range's reps per point, and voila! more Becker community fitness points. The two threads have helped me 1) stay motivated and active when I don't feel like it; 2) lose 2.5 pounds of fat and counting; and 3) objectively see that I need to up my cardio exercising. Whether you want to hop into the Becker Strength thread or you prefer to chill here, welcome and keep racking up those points!
