Becker "Move Your Butt" Challenge - June 2014

A little behind for the month, but my health, my schedule, the sun and even the space station lined up just right tonight for a neighborhood stroll with the spousal unit.

2.1 miles walking = 2.1 BPs

...8 BP for June

7+ mile trail run in the pouring rain. I ran up most of the same trail I ran last time. The section of trail that follows the river would have been impossible to do. Most of the stepping stones were underwater. I had to follow a road up the river. Where I was able to get onto the trail, the trail was a river. There were sections where the water coming down hill was over my ankles. I discovered something running up the trail in the rain-caused river today. If you run in the flowing water, instead of trying to avoid it, the trail is less slippery. I think the flowing water washes away the slick mud allowing for better traction.

I also saw what was possibly the biggest worm I've ever seen. The pictures aren't that great because my phone was wet but here's a few pictures. By the way my tip of my pinky to the tip of my thumb is about 9 inches, and my finger is about an inch wide.

8+7=15BP for June

Don't go fishing in the koi pond, tho......

26 mile ride today. Another beautiful day on the Granite Coast.
20.25 + 6.5 = 26.75 BP for June.

Looking in the opposite direction back towards Portsmouth. I think you can see the steeple of the North Church

Creek flowing out to the tidal marsh; ocean is on the other side of the trees off in the distance. There was a large flight of barn swallows zipping about and making quite a racket.

Back on Newcastle Island; that sailboat (the one actually sailing) in the lower center of the picture is a Gundalow, a centuries old design.

Wife was out too late last night, so no walk for me. Managed to get 2 miles in this morning while my daughter was at dance class.
13 BPs TTD.

Rokclmb, that's quite a worm. When I was a kid we had a torrential downpour and I found a couple of those guys in the gutter near my house. I was shocked to see a foot long, 1/2" dia earthworm because all we usually see are 2-4" long and skinny. Turns out, we usually just see the babies!

gsom - that is just beautiful. I have to travel almost an hour to get to the coast, so it just doesn't happen that often anymore. And it's always just too crowded anymore.
Weren't you the one complaining of heavy rains and absolute darkness just a little bit ago?
