The idea is simple. Move your body. Get fitter.
It ain't a contest. It's about doing what you can do to get mobile.

Between the dates of September 1 and September 30, the challenge is to earn 50 Becker Points. Points can be earned in the following fashion:

1 mile (1.6 km) on foot = 1 Becker Point
4 miles (6.4 km) road cycling = 1 Becker Point
2 miles (3.2 km) mountain biking = 1 Becker Point
1 mile (1.6 km) swimming = 6 Becker Points

If you just do one thing, you'll need to hoof it 50 miles, or road bike 200 miles, or mountain bike 100 miles, or swim 8.3 miles. But you can combine items to build toward 50 Becker Points in any fashion you choose. Honor system in play.

The reward? You'll feel better, and you'll be participating with a group of supportive peers.

and the next...

Got a 2.6 mile walk while dove hunting yesterday
Did 7.6 miles on the bike and 1.1 mile walk this morning

5.6 to start off the month.

Dr told me I need to get off my rear and start walking 30 mins to an hour every day, so I might have to jump in here to help keep myself accountable. Are there any good apps for a droid that help keep track of how far you walk?

I use the www.myfitnesspal.com app to track workouts. I usually workout in the gym so the machines tell me what mileage and calories I burn. I also have an Omron pedometer that lets me download and track my mileage from walks outside the gym and separates aerobic steps from daily walking around too

I couldn't find a great one for walking, but I've had some success with a couple running ones:
MapMyRun was decent, but the features I used most were kinda buried.
Now I use NIKE+. I begin workout when I leave the house, and end when I get back. Gives me distance, time and pace, and a graphic map of my path. Tells when I've gone farther or faster than before. Every once in a while it gets mixed up and doesn't log corrently - either way high or pitifully low - and cycling often confuses it. But it's on a smartphone (Moto RazrHD), so imperfection is kinda expected. Most days it does just fine. It's gotten to the point where I know my route so 1/2 the time I don't turn it on. But it's logged 155 miles for me since November.

2 miles Monday, and 2 last night.
4 BP to kick it off.

I'll start September off with a 6 mile trail run. It's the first time I've run trails since the beginning of June. Of course the only trail I know of so far around my new home are straight up and down the highest mountain in the area, just under 800ft tall and I started out and ended almost at sea level. According to my garmin I had 1223 ft of elevation gain then loss.

6BP for September

Welcome, ac! This is a great place to remain accountable and even become motivated for exercising. If you're walking around your neighborhood, you could drive your path and learn mileage the good, ol' fashioned way :D Stop by often, and don't get intimidated by those who post obscenely long runs each day, because others of us are lucky to get in a mile or two :o This is a great community, and I know it's been a great way for me to keep truckin'.

Another option is to use something like google maps or mapmywalk.com (there's also mapmyrun.com and mapmyhike.com) and map out the route you will walk, or did walk. If you're going to be walking the same route this might be a little easier.

After a few days of limping around with really sore calf muscles, I thought why not try it again. I ran up the same trail again today, but down the mountain on a different trail. Another 6 mile run on a nice rainy day.

I also just realized I gave myself 10BP for my last 6 mile run. I'll fix that now.

6+6=12BP for September

Thanks GSOM. I downloaded the map my walk app and figured out how far I've gone so far. My walks so far have been 1.5, 1.57, 1.57, and .5 miles. I'm taking it easy to start, but am going to add some more distance bit by bit.

Looks like I'm at 5.14 bp so far.
