I love big knives, but unfortunately missed out on the larger Becker's of recent years....So I decided to mod one of my own.

Because of a fraudulent website I purchased mircata scales for a BK4 that I'll never receive......that worked out, one thing led to another, and my NEED for a Becker made me jump on a nice slightly used BK5. I instantly stripped it, and replaced it's scales. I love it.......
Next, You guys talked me into a Nine. It's good too.

But what to do with my extra scales?
Hmmmm?

I previously had the Parangatang....
I can't say enough good things about the blade.
I can't say enough horrible things about the scales/handle.

I made some modifications, originally planning on carving a large walnut handle, but fate stepped in.

I hope this isn't inappropriate posting this?
And with all due respect, I'd definitely buy this from Mr. Becker!

It's really Awesome, and I put it through it's paces. It's very comfortable.
I need to clean it up some and make it pretty. Right now it's a User.

I'll post more pics after I do, and answer any questions.......heck, I'd probably lend it out like you guys do..... But I'm not a Beckerhead yet? ;)

That’s awesome Crag!
I’ve handled a Parangatang and loved the knife, but hated the handle.
Was there enough tang to line up flush with the Becker scales or did it leave some gaps?

Yes, and No......
I played with how I wanted the angle of the handle. I felt that was more important than looks. With that, I had a fair amount of Tang to grind down on the topside. It took awhile..... I had previously ground down that uncomfortable point on the parang's underside, so idk how much gap their would of been? I Did need to fill some gaps in the but, and underside. I used JB Weld. I have some more touch ups, but initially, I really like it.

I love this knife now, the Becker scales makes it a Real user!

If you look, the coil gives it a Great deal of control and Ballance......I also think the looks and lines are pretty sweet..... (To Me). It looks like it Should be made.
Haha!

Pretty cool man. Looks like a chopping beast.
It Does chop like a madman......but Stabs even better!
It just points very naturally....even in reverse grip. The Becker scales bring it to a whole new level....

I learned yesterday, that with that huge choil, I can actually choke up on it which allows me to use it as a two-handed short sword...... It's So fun! :D
Haha

Sweet blade, I to have a Parangatang that I really like except for the handle. I have been wanting to modify it to accept a proper set of Becker scales and I think you have just motivated me...

I had never looked at the Parangatang until coming across your thread. Now I am curious too. What is the issue with the Parangatang handle? Is it the hump between the front and back sections of the grip? Any idea how it chops in comparison to a Condor Golok or Bushcraft Parang?

I seem to be in the minority, I like the parangatang’s handle shape. I still upgraded mine with wood and kydex...
