Becker Parang BKBP

I seem to be in the minority, I like the parangatang’s handle shape. I still upgraded mine with wood and kydex...

Your's by Far is the nicest looking, but I bet you'd like it even More with the "Real" scales on it......haha

I had never looked at the Parangatang until coming across your thread. Now I am curious too. What is the issue with the Parangatang handle? Is it the hump between the front and back sections of the grip? Any idea how it chops in comparison to a Condor Golok or Bushcraft Parang?

I can Only speak for me, but the finger point/hump was always in the Wrong spot, no matter where I put my hand? I initially fixed it by grinding it off. That helped Alot, but then the handle felt too thin. I wrapped it, and it was ok again..... Then I had the amazing idea to install Ethan's wonder scales....

It limbs like a laser, and chops like a monster

Did you see how tough Kabar steel is in the pics above?
I beat the Snot out of This thing....that log made a pretzel out of the blade, and it Bounced right back!!!!I

Kabar's heat treatment is spot on!!!!

I feel guilty, cause this is my favorite "becker"

How do we get Them to re-release the patrol machette? With Kabar's 3/16 crovan......Wow what a Beast it would be!!!! Id buy a few

I also like the Parangatang's handle and in wood. When I first saw this thread I had considered doing a Becker conversion, but the more I played with the Parangatang and my Ka-Zombies, the more comfortable they felt.

It is definitely a different feel from a Becker handled knife, because the pivot point changes, but once I got used to it, I no longer felt the need to change it. Of course now that this thread is flaring back up, I kinda want to buy another Parangatang and Beckerize it, just to compare them lol.

Haha....Your pics look so good, You have me second guessing if I rushed to Beckerize mine? Haha...I think I did it after a week.... I wonder if I'd like a wood handled version? Did you make them?

Also....of these shown, which is the best chopper? You have a good variety here!

The only thing the Parangatang is in need of IMO is a real SHEATH. The handle shape feels alright to me . I do wish someone would make Micarta for em :). Then with added liners to give em the thickness and feel of the Potbelly that would be a home run for me short of the Becker handle :D

I like those Zombie knives, I've got that Pestilence and the Zomstro. Once I cut the dingus off the pommel and reduced the cachingus/fingerbump thing, I liked them better.
I haven't done anything to the JA Parangatang yet.

Pics???

I have a preference for wood handles, especially on choppers. I find the less friction of the wood allows for an easier snap, a quick flick, right before impact. No, I did not make the handles, they are by TTW, Tommy the Who.

If you just want to know about chopping capability, I'd say the BK21. It's just naturally more of a chopping design, while the Parangatang is more slasher. Both are very handy and you can do a lot with either.
The Zomstro (cleaver) is a heavy chopper, but it's flat grind on that wide blade makes it tend to sink deep and stick if you take on anything it doesn't go through on the first swing.
The Pestilence Chopper (slight sickle blade) is a light, nimble, and quick light chopper. Like a machete, it doesn't tire you out as quick as the heavier blades do.
The 2 Zombie knives are a bargain. I excused myself for buying them by telling myself I was getting them for yard work lol. But I feel their designs limit them to more specific tasks, while the BK21 Rhino and the Parangatang are much more versatile.
If you are just comparing chopping capability, mass makes a big difference.

My Nepali Kukri will out chop any of the above, but it's a beast. All things considered, I'd rather lug around a BK21 or Parangatang. Actually, combined both are lighter than the Nepali.

I keep forgetting that I want to cut off the pinky pinchers. I need to not put them away until I do that this time.

Nice sheath! I definitely need to upgrade mine. Who made it?

That pestilence has a look about it, like a rendition of the old folding pilot machete (without the folding part). I dont want to put words in anyones mouth but i think i recall ethan expressing admiration of that blade design (Maybe an old video?).
