Becker U.S.N. prototype

interesting thing. looks like Estaloc handles.

the etching looks BRAND new, not even a touch of aging of patina.

same for the "gut hook" and even the edge. that looks freshly done.

almost looks ilke the bastard lovechild of a magnum camp but without the Persian sweep with the needs of a divtoo

i've never seen anything like that in the dozens and dozens of original drawings and photographs that i have

nor in Ethan's junk boxes/etc. he has a fair number of one offs, but nothing close.

might be someone had a single prototype, but i'd hesitate to call it a Becker though it might be the product of BK&T which many were involved with. but what do i know.

I hope there is a season 2 to this story. Bladite didn't have an immediate answer. And he doesn't already have 3 of them, then it truly is a mystery
For now.... Let the research begin.

the handle is real :D

even the bolts don't jive. stainless/nickel is not correct, except for a dive knife, but ya know.

i'm inclined to say it's a unicorn

It almost looks like another knife was cut and a Bk16 blade welded to it. Everything looks so fresh like time played no part in its age.

oh your on to something here!

All will be revealed when I can get some good photos.

if you're going to Blade show, bring it, several people will want to see it.

if not, perhaps mail it to Ethan to bring, under safe guardianship. old ones will be there. they can tell things about it.

i hope you didn't pay too deer for it ;) i got $10 ;)

Well I was hoping someone would figure it out by now... I'll leave you guys in suspense a little longer. I got the photos taken, so I'll work on writting everything up later tonight.

Or maybe I'll never tell you guys and the secret will die with me.

I have some theories about how this came to be ill share with some better photos later.

you made it from scraps at a grind in?

it's not like you're really providing any information, just vague hints this way and that?

I know I know, but I just thought someone might be able to figure it out from the blade shape. Maybe I haven't given enough info.

Honestly it probably makes it worth less once you figure it out.

Oh and bladite, I need a history lesson.

On blackjack Beckers the tape inside the handles with a number on it is not a serial number. The number is to match the "fitted" handles with the right blade correct?

Because I have two examples now one with a matching number on the blade and the tape in the handles, another with mismatching numbers. The number on the blade does not match the number on the tape in the handles.

Looks like a chopped up Brute with some new black coating and some fancy engraving...:)

Serrated choil ;)

I hope for the sake or cool knife it's not a cheap survival knife blade glued to a broken 5. HaHa

indeed, batch control numbers. there's no way they had enough desire to actually serially number the stupid things.

were i felling like i had the time to dig out all my Blackjack and CinCinn Era knives, and worry three sets of screws off, per knife, take pix, then put them together, and pack them back up, a chore of many many hours, i'm pretty sure i'd have numbers all over the map from 1-50 and duplicates, iirc :D mostly, that applies to anything with estaloc. a real serial number isn't written on with grease pencil ;) according to Ethan, no knives ever had serial numbers or anything but the standard official markings.
