explanation straight from the esee guys...i hope i don't get banned just for linking to their site :o

Yeah, the inter-forum linking is often frowned upon because it can lead to cross-forum flame wars. I don't think that could be the case here though. The Beckerheads are a level-headed lot.

I'm sad to see the ESEE forum go as well. It was a good, laid-back space where you could speak an honest mind and get some valuable feedback on ideas.

That's what we're shooting for in this forum as well, and I think that's what we have. Keep up the good work, fellas.

Sad indeed. Now who are going to make fun of???? Seriously tho I'm going to miss it. Good times were had there.

JMHO, but unfortuneatly EVERYONE looses by ESEE leaving.

BF looses members and memberSHIPS
Members loose a good forum and a good source of info.
ESEE looses - sold a $hit load of knives off here (as much as they say they don't care)

It's too bad, we're all grown ups, should be able to play in the sandbox together.

Again, JMHO.

I agree. I first learned about bladeforums by finding it through ESEE's link on their website. I didn't often post there, but got lots of enjoyment reading through their posts and images. And it directly led me to this forum and my first purchase of a Becker knife. They're good people, I wish them well, and I will continue to follow them wherever they end up.

There, fixed that for ya.

I can see where they are coming from. Unfortunately that applies to both sides. Don't like it, and I do lean more in one direction than the other, but thankfully I am here for the Beckers.

Thanks - I can't spell cat with out spotting me the C and the T

Dyslexic on top of it all (serious) P.I.A. -

Yeah I can see it all too. Just too bad.

That's sad, I liked to lurk in the ESEE forums for their recommendation feedback on the non-ESEE related topics. They also had great survival/ camping/ outdoor info, and I tended to visit ESEE more than W&SS. Felt more at home in the ESEE because there are a lot of Ratpacking BHs over there.

It's weird though, we have those same non-Becker related queries here as well (backpacks, hammocks, survival vids and how-tos) and none of the threads get moved.

Shhhhhhhhhhh !

Guys, I think you just need to be smart and creative about keeping things put. For instance, that White Box Stove post stayed here because the thread title was altered to make it clear it had been part of a Becker giveaway. If you're going to ask a general question about something, you can do it here in Becker General Chat, which frankly, I'll probably sticky soon for that very reason. Or you can connect the post to Becker knives or the Beckerheads in at least some small way. Just be thoughtful about the way you frame your post and your audience, and be cognizant of your topic. I think (hope) we won't get too much in the way of moves from on high. We want people to know that this is a forum as much about skills and shared ideas as it is the knives.

So if we put a "Beckerhead Recommendation" prefix or something similar on an off topic thread title would that remove the potential conflict?

I think the real issue in the ESEE case was third-party products, so I'd think before I posted a blatant thread about something totally unconnected to Beckerphrenalia (I've copyrighted that word by the way :p). At least for now.

I just stuck this thread. The Ritter Perseverance thread won't be stuck forever, so this one can take its place. When this one hits a certain amount (1000 posts or so), we'll lock it and start up Becker General Chat II. And so on. It can be a place where Beckerheads talk to Beckerheads, and so if you want to pitch to that audience, this thread should serve you well.

Let me add, however, that you shouldn't feel intimidated about starting new threads. We want traffic. We want new threads. We want the Becker forum to become an even more vibrant culture on BFC. Eventually, once the Tweeners get here, we'll work on world domination.

The idea of the Bladeforums Manufacturer sub forums is for KNIFE discussions, everything else has a place here at Bladeforums, stuff like gear, hunting, fishing, knife making, modding, sheath making, etc. They only want knife talk in the knife discussions forums.

BKT knives are about outdoor and using those knives where they were supposed to be, outside. But, it has been made very clear that only knife talk in knife discussion forums. Period.

We have some room to play, but here's the thing, if stuff starts getting out of hand, with tons of Off Topic posts, we will be scrutinized more.

If it can be tied to BKT in some manner, then it will stay in our forum.

I don't think anyone is going to be infracted, or get in trouble, but your posts will be moved out to the areas they pertain to.

Just use your heads, be smart, and if anything happens, don't stir up any trouble.

I just made yet another command decision (the chicken is getting power hungry :D) and altered the title of the thread to lessen the impression of "General" and more closely tie it to an audience-driven conversation and our community identity. I hope DerekH doesn't mind. We'll give this a try for a little while and see how it goes. If it looks like Beckerhead Chat is draining off what would be normal forum participation or diminishing the content of the rest of the forum somehow, I'll unsticky it and chalk it up to experience.

Power hungry mod!! :p

I may get my first Becker in a couple weeks.. or I may not. Depends what I see.. or don't see. ;)

In reality guys, its business as usual. Ya'll feel free to post up as we have been, just keep it in perspective, make sure it has something to do with Kabar/BKT, and we're good to go.

This forum is about ya'll, your participation, and having fun. If we dont' have that, then we don't have a community.

Moose

PS, I got to play with some special things today.
