I already did the math, with insured and tracked shipping (about $50) and customs and tax (about $20-30) it would be a lot more expensive than to buy it here. Not to mention the wait. If I order the knife here it shows up at my door one or two days later, my BK2 from the US has been on its way for 5 1/2 weeks. Now if I had a guy stationed here in Germany, at Ramstein Airbase or something, that would be a whole different story!

Btw, I really like your blog. Thanks for the insight :) What does the line "move out. drive on. draw fire!" in your sig mean? Is that some kind of battle cry at you base or something?

You should work something our with someone in the states to buy the knife for cheaper, then you pay them on paypal and they ship it to you... Might be a little cheaper...

After Meat's latest debacle with the postal service, I think he will be ordering from the EU website that has them for awhile. 6 weeks is far too long to have to wait on a knife.

Thank you very much. I just wanted to let people know that true love does exist, the kind in story books. And also just to let people see what the heart of a soldier goes through when separated from his other half.

As for my sig, its something that my Platoon Sergeant always says. To sum it up, it means, no matter what happens, keep moving, push through, adapt, overcome, and the draw fire just means prepare for troubles move towards the enemy, towards the fire, to keep your head down and your powder dry.

That's great, thanks for the info. I really like the line, it's got a certain ring to it. I want/need some lines like that, because something like that will be engraved into my super secret project that I'm working on at the moment! So, everyone, give me some quotes that make you go further when your legs and mind are tired and everything hurts!

"Strength and Honor" is probably not something to display openly in Germany. Battlecry of the Hitlerjugend and name of a now banned neo-nazi organisation.

 :D

No problem at all, man. I don't have any problems with people using the English phrase, just "Kraft und Ehre" as it is in German makes me go into killing mode pretty much instantly :D

"There is no life but the adventurous life." Can't remember where I heard it, but it keeps my legs moving.

stein auf. sp? "rock on" .

yeah, not really :D "Rock" can't be directly translated in this case, "stein" means an actual boulder or stone. "rock" in that context doesn't even have a translation in German, we use that word too ("das rockt" - "that rocks" as in "that's cool, great, this is fun"). "Rock on" is one of those things that you can't really translate to German. I'd probably say "weitermachen" in German, which translates back to "continue", which is kinda lame.

On the other hand, you can't really translate the phrase "Weiter, weiter, ins Verderben" (from the song Dalai Lama by Rammstein) to English. I could say "Further, further, into doom" but that just doesn't cut it.

It's actually one of my favorite songs, I love the rhythm, it has some kind of "marching" sound. When I'm hiking for a long time, 6 or 7 hours on one day, I often have that song stuck in my head. Or US Army cadences :D

Lol, I've grown tired of the cadences. They are nice sometimes, but not so much when you hear them all the time. I't nice being deployed and not hearing them at all! I was thinking about the last suggestoin I made, "death before surrender" I kinda like "Death before dishonor" better.

When coming to Iraq we were layed over in Germany, (can't remember the city) and they had a vendor with snitzel and bratvurst. Oh man, so much better than the stuff i've tried in the states! My wife's family is German, and they live in a German town, so they have lots of German food during their festivals, but nothing like that. I'm from a Hungarian family and would love to go through Hungary to have some of their food. I'm sure, however it couldn't compare to my Grandmothers!

"Death before dishonor"? One extremely crappy band comes to mind.
