No prob! I love quotes! Last two, "Ours is a High and Lonely Destiny" and "It has always fallen to the few to sacrifice for the good of the many"

"We, the unfortunate, have been tasked to do so much, with so little, for so long, that we are now fully qualified to do absolutely everything, with nothing."

my memorial day giveaway. i've given away a few stuff for the beckerheads recently so in trying to balance things, it's time for the esee folks to get some too. i know there's a lot of rat pack members here as well so you might want to check-in to the esee forum for my newest giveaway...copy and pasted from http://www.jungletraining.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6042:

first of all, props to mhill for his giveaway! i'll follow suit but for the general members here since i haven't given away anything in awhile...so just post a pic of an esee knife being used and i'll pick a winner based on my mood sometime next week.

as we drink and gorge ourselves silly this weekend, please take a minute to remember and give thanks to those who served/serving...if you see a veteran in a diner or something (chances are high he'll be proudly wearing his uniform this weekend), pick up his tab. it's the least we can do to say thanks...or at least walk up to one, shake his hand and just say thank you.

...let's not forget what this holiday is really all about...freedom is not free.

Dang, does Bladite still have contest Stickies up? :D :D

Just got through in the back yard with the boy. Gave him that old Camillus Marine Combat knife and all he wants to do is cut stuff with it! Took him out back and passed on some of the safety lessons dear 'ole Moose was trying to impart to me last weekend. I think he got the hang of a lot of it. Kinda hard for him with a big knife that is, well, not that big. Think he is going to be getting a visit from the knife fairy here pretty quick. Maybe this BK11 that I have sitting here next to me...

On a side note, the BRUTUS DH Potato 4 (I have nicknamed her Sheila) tore through a 5 inch locust that was polluting my front yard with tinier locusts, well, it tore through it like a fat man at an all you can eat buffet. Seriously loving this knife now.

Well, if it didn't work out, you had a handy, custom made boat anchor for your soon to be aquired kayak. :D

I got the Mora 511 for my son. Cheap, small handle, good weight, and a nice blade guard.

Man, I need a knife (knife as in real knife, not BK14) until Wednesday, I'd kinda like to try something different, but Mora's can only be bought at ONE damn online shop which is damn slow, takes a week for delivery.

On the other hand, if I order a BK2 at my favorite German knife online shop now and pay via paypal, I'll have it by Tuesday if the postal service doesn't mess it up again like my EsKabar. And if I happen to receive Nick's package... well, you can't have too many knives, can you? Tempting... very tempting...

Hey y'all. I know a bunch of folks here have backgrounds in the trades. I just started a pre-apprenticeship program to help women get into the skilled trades, and my homework assignment for the week is to interview some people in the areas I'm interested in (primarily lineworking, but also considering becoming a millwright, carpenter, ironworker, tree-trimmer/arborist, piledriver, or steamfitter, more or less in that order). Would anyone be willing to lend me a bit of their time to let me pick their brains? I'd really appreciate it. Even other trades besides the ones I mentioned would be helpful. Let me know!

Hey Mingo, I was an Electrician / millwright in a local sawmill up here where I live. I'll help you with what I can. Shoot me an e-mail.

Went down to Joplin today and helped with some clean up.

The damage down there is insane. We were on the main tornado path, a mile wide strip of devastation as far as we could see in both directions. Roof sections lay on crumpled cars. Twisted metal and clothing hung on skeletons of trees. The green of leaves and grass was replaced by the pale color of stripped trees, splintered 2x4's, and broken plywood. Every piece of debris was coated with a thin layer of fiberglass insulation, which caused continual itching to any exposed skin.

But between the shattered houses on both sides of every road were lines of vehicles and people there to help. Not five minutes passed without someone driving by offering water and food. The only thing of any height left standing within the damage path was a single crane to our east bearing a huge American flag.

The BK9 saw some use on tree limbs, but honestly, most of our work was done with shovels, pitchforks, and wheelbarrows. Between, under, around, and throughout the bigger pieces of debris was a very fine debris, as though someone had take a house and a bunch of leaves and ran them through a blender.

I did manage to get a Becker knife pic, but it's on my phone and I don't have the cord with me. I'll try to get it up in a couple days.

Does professional train rider count?

well sure, but you have to fancy it up: say you're a freelance transportation consultant or trans-urban navigation/wilderness skills guide or budget travel broker or something.

and MWTIC-- since you're offering, you should expect an email tomorrow. Thanks muchly.
