Beckerhead firearms

Shot the .17 and .223 and some groundhogs today. I think I hit two of them but I'm not positive. Around 250 yard shots I'd say.

You "Think" you hit them? Not cool. You might say it's just a groundhog but it shouldn't be wounded. Deserves a quick clean kill.
Personally I don't like to shoot it if I don't want to eat it.

They break tractor axles and sheep/cow legs. Not to mention when a lamb occasionally falls in their hole and suffocates. Teach them not to dig holes and I'll quit shooting them.

Besides, it's better than getting mauled to death by the dogs.

Quick, clean kills are the best, that's why I haven't killed any deer yet. Then again, the deer aren't pests that destroy our property.

I'm ethical whenever it's possible.

i'm with Nos on this one.

if you got varmints causing your grief and harm, they die. cleanly, and ethically is great - free meat! but if they die in a dark deep hole. they're still dead.

now, if you're doing it for pure sport, well, that's kinda dumb, if you can brain them most of the time. still, nothing is 100%. that's why you end up having to follow a blood trail for 8 hours. in the dark and cold.

if someone can show me 100% kill at 250 yds, then i might be impressed.

oh, except one point ;)

never drive a tractor, without having previously scouted the path you will take. according to the official guidelines ;)

Nice. Just ordered the Zhukov stock and Handguard and a MOE grip in FDE for my WASR. Not totally crazy about the looks but I wanted an extended handguard so I could run a vert grip and clear the mags. I saw AK Operators union Modified one to fit a Vepr 7.62x54r carbine so I'm going to see if I can make it fit my .308 Saiga and if so I'll order a second in black for that rifle. I think it's as simple as longer screws and opening up the barrel clamps a bit.

I'm using the mid length version that goes past the handguard retainer (you have to chop off the front sling mount to work), and my vert grip has plenty of clearance because I dremeled the rear and bottom. There's also room to move it one more slot forward, and that doesn't need any VFG dremeling for magazine clearance.

We've figured out where most of the holes are, so axles aren't normally a problem, but it's still possible. Especially if we're trying to get sheep into a pen on the fourwheeler. They aren't fun to run a motorcycle tire into either..

Broken sheep/cow legs and falling lambs is the main concern. Just pests all around.

Same with coyotes. A clean kill shot is great, but if I can even nick one or hit it's leg or guts or whatever, I will shoot it. Dead is dead whether it takes a second or a few hours.

Now lets get back to talking guns.

Rationalize how ever you need to. Pests do need to be controlled I am not saying otherwise still life needs to be respected a clean kill is best. If a 250 yard shot can't be made clean get closer. Nuff said.
You are right about one thing this is not the place to talk about it.

That's the SD9ve Right? How is the trigger?

Yes it is. Trigger is smooth, but 8lb is a little much for some. Takes a bit of a long pull also. I'm sure anyone that is used to a 5lb trigger would have to get used to it, but I love the extra pressure with the long, yet buttery smooth, pull.

First day I've had a chance to get out since the start of squirrel season here - so here's a simple single-shot 12ga and BK11...

Nice. I've got a couple NEF/H&R 12's, a 20, and three rifles. Any time I find a used one at a decent price I snatch it up.

I'm glad I went with the longer Zhukov handguard, it's got the extra length I was looking for. I'll be able to run a vertical grip out farther and still have room to mount a light if I want to.

i'll never break an axle.

rolling the tractor though...

i'm seriously contemplating ditching the tractor for an excavator.

if i could score a menzi-muck... who. $100k? 200k? who. so cewl though. even the baby one would be awesome.

that said, a baby kubota... oh yeah.

hard to roll an excavator. possible though.

very hard to roll a walking excavator (menzi-muck). nice.

Nice. No more handguard retainer?

Speaking of long handguard, SLR Rifleworks came out with one last Friday:

Nope, my Dremel made quick work of that and I don't regret it. If I ever did want to change back I could always use a clamp on retainer for a Saiga. But I don't see that happening. Speaking of Saigas, it looks like I could make one work for my Saiga .308. a little trimming with the Dremel, hog out the barrel clamps a bit, and some longer clamp screws and I can finally ditch that crapco thing.

Of course they would come out with that right after I buy the Maglpul handguard. Oh well, it's probably heavier that the Zhukov anyway, which already adds a significant amount of weight to the gun.

EDIT: wow, it's actually 2 OZ lighter but twice as expensive.

I need to get one of these. In Colorado you can legally conceal a handgun in your vehicle without a permit (though I really need to get a CCP anyway) and with all the back roads exploring I'm getting into lately it would be nice to have something with a little more oomph than a typical pistol and that I can keep loaded and ready to go.

SLR makes a very good product and has excellent CS. I used some of their stuff for my 308 build and was very happy with the quality and how well they took care of me.

I worry about the heat with the SLR handguard. Magpul has some kick ass heat shielding, 90 round magdump in the desert and the handguard only felt warm. About 400 rounds throughout the day with no accidental burnings, and I don't use gloves. Not sure if SLR even has a heatshield at that weight.
