Beckerhead firearms

Handled an Ed Brown Special Forces the other day. All I can say is damn. I didn't know a gun could be that tight and yet be as smooth as butter. Never felt anything like it.

There's a reason those things cost what they do. Do they work any better? Not by much, but it isn't really about that is it?

ohhh! can I play?....I'm a bit of an AK addict to go along with my Beckerheadness....

I'll stop there LOL.... I could probably go on for 3ish more pages...

Are those Canis adapters for the MOE handguards?

Yup....love em. I actually prefer the Canis adapter and mid length handguards over the 2 new AK specific ones.....one is too short, one is too long....nothing else is as dead sexy and perfect as the Canis and mid length handguards at least IMHO....

No permanent modification to the rifle, quick off and on, VERY solid, well made....also using Canis adapters for the M4 stocks.....those require more fitting than I like, but that's ALL I don't like about them....VERY good kit

My favorite AR set up - and I've been through a lot. I just like the simplicity of this one, though I fully acknowledge that I am way faster with an Aimpoint.

I went shooting with some guys from work earlier and took my AK with the magpul furniture out. The chassis in the Zhukov handguard heated up and the thing was too hot to hold for any real length of time. I'm going to look for something I can coat the inside of it with that will help reflect heat and then paint the outside desert tan to keep the sunlight from heating it up from the outside. It wasn't even 90 but my Sig P220 got to hot to hold just sitting in the sunlight and I'm sure it wasn't helping the handguard any. I have to cover everything with a jacket when I shoot on warm days or stuff like that happens.

Wow, I had no problem with my MOE handguard, and it's right up against the Ultimak and we were out in the desert. Does the Zhukov have a heatshield?

It has a large kinda chassis thing that should act as a heat shield. It's pretty thick so it might be absorbing and holding heat itself. But I couldn't hold it and we weren't even doing mag dumps or anything like that.

Not very often... :D

I've also heard that FDE is the new black...so there is that. About the only thing more tacti-cool is Multi-Cam.

it's pretty cool one can buy furniture as stock in colors now.

black... boring, scary to some.

green? cool.

grey? old skool cool.

purple? nobody scared of purple :D

toxic green? d'amazing!

some of those large caliber AR uppers look super sexy, spendy to use, but ... sure would be a good range day

.450 Bushmaster, .458 SOCOM, 50 beowulf, 6.5mm Grendel, ooh 45 Raptor,

300 blackout - hear a lot about it, don't know much else

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2014/05/08/introducing-45-raptor-cartridge-ar-10/

seen some exotics out there. crazy stuff.

semi-auto 7.62x54R would be cool

.45 raptor looks cool.

.300 blackout is a 5.56 case necked up to .30, it is supposed to replicate the 7.62x39 cartridge but in a case that works better in AR15's. It's designed to suppress well and work well from short barrels, much like the 7.62x39. Not much more to it than that. If you want AK ballistic performance from your AR it's the best way to go about it.

VEPR makes several 7.62x54r models and even has 10 round mags for them. A coworker of mine is trying to sell one. And of course the Dragonov/SVD rifles are semi auto.

300BLK ballistics (supersonic ammo) is also similar to .30-30, so it's well suited to hunting. It does work better in ARs, but some of the newer magazines seem to help with the 7.62X39 reliability in the AR. As hoss said, it's main draw is when using subsonic ammo and shooting supressed. It also uses powders that burn completely in short (8" or 9") barrels. Another design criteria was that it use standard 5.56 bolts and magazines, plus reliable functioning with sub- and super-sonic ammo without having to change a gas block setting. My standard hog hunting rifle is a 300BLK SBR with AAC 762-SDN-6 supressor.

A nice, but spendy, alternative to the semi-auto 7.62X54R is the Zastava M76, which is in 7.92×57mm Mauser (AKA 8mm Mauser). Had a customer buy one from out of state and have it shipped to me for transfer, so I got to check it out when he came to pick it up. His was complete with the scope and a bag full of loaded magazines...weighed a ton when it arrived.

This is too cool.

Well, something just got bumped to the top of the list.

I was looking at AR and AK pistols online, stopped into a gunstore yesterday and they had a Draco with a pistol brace that I fondled. They wanted $100 too much for it but it did confirm that I really really want an AK pistol.

I'd love to get a Ruger SR1911 Night Watchmen.

Also would really like a SP101 in .357.

Sadly, the funds nor the wife's approval are available at this time.

I have the SP101. Pretty heavy for what it is but that just helps with recoil. I used to have a Taurus 605 but after the second time it broke I sold it and went and bought the Ruger the same day.

I was tinkering with the Spanish FR7 again today. I was thinking that the follower in the magazine had a lot of room to float around in the magazine so I took some thin card stock and stuck it inside the magazine with tape as an experiment. It kept the follower from moving around but the tape I used caused it's own issues but I think I'm on the right track. I'm going to order a new follower which I'll have to shorten and maybe fit to the magazine because the Spanish put a block in the magazine since 7.62 NATO is shorter than 7mm Mauser. Might as well toss in a new magazing spring while I have it apart. Hopefully it still uses a regular Mauser magazine spring.

Here is my Mossy project gun.
I work on it from time to time. Going for a "do all" shotgun. I have a 18" , 22" vent & 28" bbl I need some choke tubes & a few shotgun card.

I don't think you can go wrong with ether a Mossberg 500 or Rem 870
