My old lathe died....RIP :(

I'm going to be getting a new machining lathe and maybe a mill towards the first of February.

What I want to know is if you crazy beckerheads could come up with some ideas for all of us to have personal beckerhead gear, I have been talking with Moosez45 about making some firesteel capsules made out of Stainless steel/aluminum kind of like esee's fire kit, but with our own design.

We would come up with the design then I would turn our project and show pics to verify with everyone that its good to go.

Just a background for all of you to know about me.
I've been machining for 5-6 years now and have two certificates in maching (CNC Machining and Convetional Machining) I worked with almost every type of metal and love 6065 aluminum and 316 stainless.

The fire project will cost between 20-30 for each depending on our design and the metal used.

What do you all think

Any logos will have to be Ethan approved, the designs themselves we can come up with. You can go gold (I know you are) but I will have to check the sales rules, and make sure we aren't violating anything. Will this be a Beckerhead exclusive setup? Or will this be Bladeforums wide?

Beckerhead exclusive setup.
If anyone wants other gear of some kind then it can be made but this is for Beckerheads only.
I will be going gold ASAP.
I personally think it would be awesome, and a honor to make this gear for the beckerhead community.

Also when it comes to machining I'm a prefectionist.

Maybe DerekH can bust out some designs, wish I had CAD/CAM....

excellent, yar...

beckerhead grappling hooks, like those things at countycomm ;) but better! ninjas!

Good then, lemme holler at Derek, hold on,

DEREK!!!!!!

We need some drawings, you CAD fool you.

are we talking $20-30 ea for (1) fire steel similar to SE's ..?

Yes with the waterproof capsule and the steel...

Here are a few videos for those who do not know what a lathe is.

this is a mori seiki cnc machine, I dream of having this one, I ran one for a while and its the Cadillac of cnc lathes....

i really like disduster's firesteel handle! it's like a mini becker handle...it's instantly recognizable. i'd buy one in a heartbeat if it's a similar shape.

Im not a beckerhead yet, but this is an awesome idea!

I'd say make it from aluminum to keep it light, and the container part long so more stuff can me stashed in it!
Maybe incorporate a striker too? Corona makes a carbide sharpener that makes some crazy sparks on a fire steel.
A set screw setup so the Ferro rods can be swapped out easily too.

It's very generous of you to offer your time like this Flexxx

A 2-finger Becker handle for firesteel would be cool. :) I would say Aluminum for weight, but Aluminum tends to ding up easily. I would prefer stainless(when I get official title of Beckerhead, that is! :)).

great idea... and the video was awesome. the music nearly put me to sleep!

Beckerhead #32

Could you scroll engrave a pistol slide with a CNC machine?

What about a Ti match case?

I personally would go with 6065 Aluminum, the reason is its lighter, Corrosion resistant and the 6065 does not scratch easy compared to other aluminum like 6061.

Er, yes? Whatchu want?
Your drafting & blueprints

The 316 stainless is sweet also and can be made with a mirror finish but is about twice as heavy as the aluminum.

Here are a couple of pics for ideas

Titanium is hard to machine and expensive IMO, as for the Delrin goes I would be willing to do it if thats what everyone wants, its a little brittle and can melt at high temps while machining but I would be willing to give it a go, if i'm correct I think derlin is a mix of plastic resin and metal...

Delrin might be a good idea, too. It comes in Becker Black, also. ;)

I just got done checking it out and that is actually a damn good idea (BLADITE )

Okay, here are some 3D drawings.

This is a to scale 3D rendering of my wood gas stove I am working on using a stainless steel pencil holder and a bain marie pot I ordered from Amazon. Or rather was. The outside piece was not the right size.
