Beckerhead Gear

Should have my new lathe next monday, need to know if we are still going threw with this or not.

I do like Bushman5 idea about the 1/2 circumference firesteel...

not yet.......

lol, best get you some finalization there homeslice. BTW, just been reading through your thread, you guys should put some hefty knurling on the cap if you go with a capsule deal. Knurling makes it grippier and more tactile in a wet/slippery environ or if you're in a bad sit and the adrenaline is pumping and gross motor is all you got going.

Also, someone mentioned sexying it up. Have you guys considered maybe doing a G10 or micarta sleeve on the outside. You'd likely have to machine the sleeve solid and make another threaded portion to get it on. locktite or epoxy the threads to make it more permanent.

God bless,
Adam

I'm not a Beckerhead yet either but I do have a lot of machinist experience. Delrin would be good choice. Being a former 02 I have used Delrin in making baffles for suppressors, it did take the pressure and heat very well. It's also self lubricating and abrasion resistant. It is very easy to machine, light and not to expensive.

I know moose wants Stainless Steel.

I want aluminum for its durability and strength...

I wouldn't mind a 1/2" rod if it could have a slim handle built for it, maybe 3" of rod showing with 4" of handle that were just tubing or similiar.

The Becker handle for a steel would be cool, but it seems like it would have to be pretty beefy to hold a 1/2" rod, which would put it more in the realm of a barbecue lighter. If it could be sized down it might be cool.

Herger's post about Delrin got me thinking that the Becker firesteel handles could be turned pretty easily on some 5" cylinders of delrin, turning the profile, then using a bandsaw to cut portions out of the cylinder and cutting them to length. After that a touchup on a belt sander could get them right. I don't know how the elasticity of delrin would work with the variance on the firesteel handles.

Edit- not just trying to be contrary... :D

Sorry everyone, I have some bad news on getting a lathe.

Had some teeth problems and my dental bill is out of control....really bummed out about the whole deal.

Just wanted to apologize to everyone.....:(
I did have a few extra bucks to go gold and buy myself a few other items.

I do have some good news for beckerheads but I will have to wait to tell you what it is, its not as cool but its still cool at the same time....;)

chewing is over-rated. chop up your food with your beckers and slurp it down with a straw.

No worries bro, life happens. I gotta go here in a while myself and I just know it is going to cost a fortune. Stupid medical science not catching up with sci-fi and having nanomachines to fix everything instantly. Grumble grumble grumble.

Take care of yourself. We'll still be here whether you get a lathe or not, and I'm sure what ever you got up your sleeve will be bad a$$!!!
