anyone up for a beer fueled chat? Im in there now and there are a ton of nipples in there...good ones.

Google results say that a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) for bearded faces is a good choice.

That is indeed interesting. I do have a bucket under my grinder. The thing that makes me weird is I stand when I flat/convex grind. But I sit when I hollow grind. I'll have to try that when I stand. But think it would be in the way when I sit. I know. I'm weird.

What size monitor do you have now? Would you prefer 3 or 4 mismatched monitors? :D
 
I'm too fat to climb...its not the climbing that worries me, its the reverse climbing at a high rate of speed with my head smacking against a boulder that gets me all antsy...

Hence having a belayer on the other end of the rope to catch you. :D

Actually, if I ever get a job at an indoor climbing gym (not seasonal), I think you should come down and try, this way you can be belayed by someone you trust, I assume you trust another BH holding you 30-200 feet in the air, right? :p

I use a redneck dust collector until I get a shop built. Cowhide dust is no fun. Built a box with a good shopvac on each side right up next to the belt. Cuts down on about 90% of it. That and a damn good respirator, definitely do not want that crap getting in your lungs. Still trying to come up with a better temporary solution.

Well maybe we can learn together. I gotta do something better. Things have been getting pretty busy around here! But that's a good thing!
 
Now you got me looking at dust collection systems again. For essentially just a vacuum they get expensive fast.

3M full face respirator with airline. blow in nice cool dry air. breath well.
 
also, a vacuum system with a water trap can be hacked up, and works well, i'm told
 
If you can find an old Roots blower you can make a dandy system for cheap. Got any industrial salvage yards around you?

Yowza! Sent you an invite. Just follow the links and all, and you should get 10 bucks in store credit. They've got black diamond gear, ropes, etc. I usually buy belaying devices at Backcountry though. Just picked up a grigri 2 (works great, which is good, cause those are pricy). Shame you're all the way in Florida. Would be fun to go climbing with another Beckerhead.

I use a 20" box fan with a filter taped over the input. This week I've also been running the shop vac with the nozzle near the grinder. This works surprisingly well, considering how bad it was before. But it's still less than ideal. Worse yet, the machines, fan, and vac are all on the same power strip.

For a mask I use a disposeable 3M, but one of the good ones - I'll find the model #, but doubt you want to downgrade from a respirator. Generally I don't have anything in my nose at the end of the night. I also have facial hair, but not real long.

A water bucket close under the grinder works wonders when profiling and grinding bevels on a work table. Of course if you're handle-shaping, all bets are off and it goes everywhere, as you know... same is true from the disc grinder.

So this morning I was making some sausage for my girlfriends kids and was not practicing good knife safety with my BK-11 and cut my finger pretty good. I can see the bone
