Beckerheads GAW, Puppy has been named!!! Thanks to ALL.

Was there a theme for the litter? That might also help with choosing a name. Just saying.

Congrats on the new dog WW.

Plenty of good choices from this list. I'm sure you'll find something that's appropriate. Although, my wife Triggs (Christine Triggs), thinks you should name him Cutie Pie!

Yes there are loads of great names already :) my wife hasnt even looked at them yet though, she said she is going to wait until after we bring him home tomorrow before she even looks at any of the names. She wants to see what type of personality he has before she picks a name.

Do you call your wife by her last name? Thats weird....Is it your last name as well or the maiden name? Im going to try that with my wife and i bet she gives me a dirty look HAHA. If i call her anything other than "baby" she thinks somethings up. If i call her right now by her real first name she will say "whats wrong", "what happened" or similar...

And he is a cutie pie, but i might get beat up for walking a small dog down the road in philly yelling, "come here cutie pie" LMAO.... yea i cant see myself saying that in public HAHA

I like it. Suck up :p LMAO

Thanks for the reply... I looked long and hard at dog breeds as we had a 3 year old at the time and the malamute won based on his temperment with small children... Gotta say we luck out. Kodi is great with my kids. I have seen my daughter accidently stand on his tail and he just layed there waiting for her to move off then he got up and sat in a corner... I was impressed by the fact he knew not to jump and possibly knock my daughter down...this trait of protecting family is part of this type of dog family which includes the shiba inu, akita and siberian. They are all very closely related and share a lot of the same traits.

Your pup looks great and i am sure will be a great addition to your family. Dehydrated chicken breast strips are great treats but remember to avoid anything containing pork or onions as they are posionous to this type of dog.

Cheers
Cory

Some really great names so far, its going to be hard to pick thats for sure.

Wildnewfie, Malamute and huskies are gorgeous dogs as well, my wife's favorite breeds actually, but we are not allowed large breed dogs in the home im renting right now.

Cam, we were talking about Hachiko earlier in the snark thread. Never heard of him so i read the story and that was a great story. Truly loyal.

What do you mean a theme for the litter??? I think they have something going on because right now they are calling all the puppies names that start with the letter "P". Pasko, Ponce, Posh, Pippi, Polly, and Persia

Everyone calls her by her maiden name (Triggs) and I can't blame 'em - Triggs is pretty cool. I also don't blame her for not taking my last name - Alexandropoulos. Going from her six letter last name to my alphabet soup is asking a bit much -lol.

Most breeders have a registered name based on the letter of the alphabet that reflects the order of the birth of the litter. The first litter is the A litter, the second litter is the B litter and so on. The registered name of the pups reflects that letter and their call names are related.

For example, our older dog is from the "T" litter and his registered name is "The Oz Man Cometh" - call-name Oz. Our second dog is from the AA litter - "Academy Award" winning films. His registered name is "An Officer and A Gentleman" - call name Zack (from the film).

It sounds like you you have P litter pup.

Hope that makes sense!

LOL!

Yea Triggs is a cool name, and only 1 syllable. Easy, i like easy and 15 letters isnt easy LOL

And i heard people with Greek last names are all screwed up :D lmao But maybe thats just my family HAHA

I'll still go with Hachiko like I said in the snark thread, but another I remember from the Wolverine movie: Kuzuri

Oh ok yea that makes sense now, i appreciate the info bud. I was wondering why they all started with P lol. Good way to keep track of which puppy came from which litter. But i dont think ill keep his name starting with a P unless its coincidental.

Sounds like you know quite a bit about this sort of thing.. This is the first dog im personally buying from a breeder that is "registered".... its only ACA, not AKC, but i dont care about breeding or doing dog shows as this is just a family pet. They did say the dog comes with a health guarantee too.... but do i need to do anything with this registration?? Anything to pay attention to or special things i should ask them tomorrow when i go to get the dog?

I appreciate the info bud.

Well... He's the dog of a Beckerhead. He needs a good, solid name.

And so I refer to another with a strong name.

He was smart.

He was a loyal companion.

He was in Mad Max 2

He was....

Dog.

I actually spelled that right when I put it in my phone; that's what happens when you grow up in the ethnic soup of Rochester....my wife didn't take my last name, and she and her family are the only ones I know of with that last name. She's also the only one that comes up if you google her first and last name. Pretty sure she's the only one with her first name.

Banjo means "bathroom" in Japanese. Just sayin'.

I always heard it was "benjo" or "binjo". :)

I have a friend who has 3 other friends and ALL of them go by their last names with as called by anyone that's know the group of them for any length of time. All 4 went from kindergarden through HS in the same small town school and every one of them had "Amanda" as a first name. Teachers started calling them by last name only to make sure they got the right one to answer up.

Cute pup, WW. On names, one thing to avoid is looooonnnnggg names. Take Mississippi as an example. If you needed your dog to obey a command such as "stop" or "down" immediately because he was taking off running and you needed to exert verbal control, by the time you got out "Mississippi, STOP", he'd be in the next county.

My initial recommendations are:::

Just to be really different, the one name I've wanted to use on a dog forever and a day (except that I keep getting overridden by the females in my family}

Cat

Some others are:::
Family Traditionals Names--
Spike
Brutus (or Brute)
Chico
Pepper
King

Odd balls ---
Drake (as in Dragon)
Kaiser
FuzzButt, Fuzz for short (was the name of my last cat - came from "get your fuzzy butt ______" "off that" or "outta that" or "over here")

I always heard it was "benjo" or "binjo". :)
In all likelihood I am wrong, I was told this by my dad - who does not speak Japanese but learned a few phrases while stationed there during the tail end of the Korean conflict in the 50's. He has not proven to have a facility with language (other than English; he was a journalist) but I love him anyway. Googling now.....benjo it is. That's what I get for listening to my tone deaf father. Actually he's not tone deaf, he's tone mute - can't sing on key to save his life, or get the correct accent in a foreign language either.
