Great to see some activity on this thread still. Lotta great looking setups. Getting ready for deer (bow) season to start here next week - hoping to get a couple stands hung in the next few days. Time always gets away from me. Luckily I get a month in the woods before the blunderbusses come out.
Current setup:
Mathews Halon 6, QAD fall-away rest, Axion sight and stabilizer. Shooting a couple different kinds of CarbonExpress arrows with a T.R.U.-Ball handheld, thumb-triggered release...that I cannot recall the name of, at the moment. Comfortable draw cycle and SO quiet. Shooting it without a wrist strap - virtually no jump at the release. It just....stays in my hand.
I would highly recommend the Mission Riot, or whatever they are making now that's similar. 19"-31" draw length, something like 17#-60# weight adjustability and ~75% let-off, IIRC - all user adjustable without a press. And I really liked the draw cycle: very old school smooth (the 2nd major reason I bought it - 1st would be bang for the buck). Really easy to shoot. I'd still be shooting it, if I didn't upgrade to the Halon 6.
If you're local to southeast NH, I have a bow just like it that I should sell...

Can any one suggest a good starting bow (compound or regular) and cross bow that won't break the bank for deer hunting. I'll be throwing my BK 4 with my SP-51 in the deer pack this year with the BK 5. The BK 4 is nice and light and pretty versatile.
