Officer William Janicki could only stand and watch Sunday as the 27-year-old man climbed higher into the tree with a rope gripped tightly in his left hand.
Janicki watched the man wrap one end of the mooring rope around a limb and then wrap the other end around his neck.
"He looked me dead in the eyes and said, 'I don't want to do this any more,'" Janicki said Tuesday.
The man then scooted off the branch and dropped.
"He fell about a foot, a foot and a half and the rope tightened."
The man dropped and dangled in the air. It was a horrible sight, but Janicki had seen worse in his four years in the military.
The 6-foot-5 officer just relied on his instincts and training, scaling the fence and then the limbs until he was within reach of the rope. It took about 30 seconds, he said.
Janicki grabbed his ESEE JUNGLAS knife that he always keeps sharp and chopped the taut rope.
"Once he hit the ground he gasped for air, so I knew he was still alive, But i hit him in the forehead with the spine of my JUNGLAS and told him he was a f***ing retard" Janicki said.
Had Janicki not had his knife on him, the situation probably would have turned out much differently, he said.
"I think it stems back from my days in the military when they taught you to be prepared for anything," that's why I left my BECKER and BUSSES at home, he said.
The man was disoriented but conscious, and he is expected to survive. Janicki straddled the two fences and extended his hand to the man.
"Everything will be OK," he told him.
Well, you Beckerheads just got to me. Thanks to Bladite and Moosez45 post on the ESEE forum. I just bought a BK2 on eBay with Micarta Handles and the original factory handles. Literally just pulled the trigger. I'll post photos as soon as I get it.
Hey Guardian.....
Welcome to BK&T and if you promise to not tell Mike or Jeff I will admit (but only to You) that If and only IF, I did not make knives I might be attracted to one or two ESSE blades........NICE pics BTW........
You really should get a Becker or two just for comparison.....But if ya just gotta get something else, you are getting good stuff....DO NOT TELL JEFF.....
All Best...

My RC5 has experience, that looks like it was the first thing your fat little black knife has ever done!
There!!! I fixed what you were trying to say budski!:jerkit:![]()
Wow, those things look barely used, are they for show? Or go? Seems like to me they are good at holding down free flying, airborn dust.

You're just used to the coating rubbing off when you slice paper. It damn near takes a belt sander to remove the coating on an ESEE.
TAGannon, don't feel bad...I'm on the verge of getting one as well.![]()
Hell, I'm thinin' of gettin' a ESEE6, so don't feel bad. LOL, I already own a 3, 4, Izula, and AH1, THEY JUST DON"T GET USED!!!!!! Budump Crash.
Moose
Is that because the micarta is to rough for your baby soft hands after all the years of using plastic handled knives?
I keed, I keed.
Nope, I just use my knives so much, that I would wear away a micarta handle faster than you can lay out your entire collection of ESEE knives, and DUST THEM OFF!!!
Its all in good fun, we can do that you know, rib one another without getting into a WTF scenario. Its fun.
