Beer and Blades!

I've always known them for their fruited beers, I've rarely been drawn to their stuff, but have done the brewery tour - that's awesome that you know/have met them, they have a hell of a cult following.

I used to know a lot of people...
Are thinking of New Glarus? They are known for award winning fruit beers.

Leinie's are kinda posers..... Although when I was 21 I waited in line at the local liquor store to open...so I could get the first of Leinies Red, when it first came out ....haha.

That was before being a Beer Geek was "A Thing"

Process in brewing called "fruiting the beer". I've never liked sweet or fruity beers. In fact it's my pet peeve with most American beers. They are either flavored alcohol junk or too sweet. Much prefer the dryer old German, Dutch, Czech, as well as beers like Modelo Especial which no doubt has some distant past Germanic influence ... and stouts like Guinness.

I lived in the UK for quite a few years 2 times, and in Germany for 9 years and got spoiled. In '82 I went to Dublin with my Irish girlfriend at the time to visit her parents.

. ....... And then we went to the Guinness brewery. I'd had really good draft Guinness in the UK, on the cross channel ferries, and places like the Irish Pub in Frankfurt. But I'll tell you, that fresh Guinness at the brewery was just incredible. Apparently at one time Guinness was served to recovering patients in hospitals in Ireland and Britain because of it's nutritional value.

I like my share of wackier beers myself but would be fine if I had nothing but a carlsberg, czechvar, etc or a nice Belgian, of course.

And weizenbier. I'd often go to an Italian restaurant in Frankfurt and get an omelette, toast etc and sit at an outside table for breakfast . No place you can do that in the USA where I live now. Man, those were the days.

Back in the day, Guinness was served to expecting mothers it was believed to help, I think with milk production....idk? Probably just primed them up for making More babies......

I never heard of fruiting a beer.

Fruit beers like Kriek and Framboise and other lambic been around before Guiness, I bet....
New Glarus in Wisconsin rocked the beer world being a non Belgium brewery ousting Their legendary styles.... It was a big deal

I'm NOT talking sissy phoo phoo beers. Marketing beers, that soccer mom's drink

*For the record, I'm not huge into fruit beers. I went through a sour phase a number of years ago, culturing my own yeasts, and commercilly...

But I actually specialize in American versions of British style ales.
Especially Stouts, Porters, and some Browns....
Used to have a beer engine before it was cool. Soooooomuch work, though.

Sorry Crag the Brewer Crag the Brewer , I meant to respond to your earlier comment - I guess I meant flavored beers for Leinenkugel - I had never heard of them (15 or so years ago), but when they first hit the Colorado market, the folks that had moved from the midwest, were stoked about it, can't say I'm a fan of their beers in the slightest. As for New Glarus, they do some fantastic beers with fruit, as you say, they're not flavored simply to be flavored, but really a way to get fruit into your system, while enjoying a delicious beverage - their strawberry rhubarb is super tasty.
