Beer talk

Had a nice one this afternoon as well - a Maudite, 750 ml... @8%, it took me a good 5 minutes to type this note correctly :o

On deck for tonight is an Orval Trappist Ale. I've never had one before. Alot of belgians are hit or miss with me so I'm hoping for the best.

good stuff. I met the owner at a festival in Fl about 13 or so years ago. My favority Candadian brewery by far. Unibroue / La fin du Monde was my first foree into Belgian styles about 15 years ago.

One of my new years resolution, or 'attempt at something trivial', was to drink local (ok state of CO beers only). I am only 3 months into it. Luckily CO isn't a bad place to be for good beer. On the flip side, there are so many other places where good biere comes from too. Sadly, if I want anything new, I need to go to brewpubs and get growlers, or look for small releases.

I really liked the Orval. It is alot different from any other Trappist I've had. it is a little sour and has some hop bitterness. Its a fairly balanced beer, not sweet but full of flavor. I liked it alot.

Yesterday I had a very tangy and hoppy, very satisfying, pint of Pure Ubu Purity Ale,

Today I had a very full-flavoured, warming, fruity, pint of Hook Norton Old Hooky,

Mmmm, nice!

Ok every time I have the St. Rogue Red I get a different empression of it. It's good but every bottle seems to have a different level of hoppy bitterness.
Now for tonight it is going to b Beamish. I am a big Irish stout guy and of the big 3 this one is my favorite.

Yeah, Beamish is ok!

Dark beers like stout are the only ones that taste decent out of a can imho.

I'm quite a fan of stouts. They're perfect after a meal, treating it like a dessert, especially if it's a Young's Double Chocolate Stout. However, when I'm in the spendier mood, I'll shell out for some Duvel. Those darn champagne bubbles. Mmm...

However, I'm currently lacking in funds due to my knife addiction so I'm having Laphroaig to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day. I realize that it makes no sense to drink Scotch for an Irish celebration, but either way it's whisky.

Tonight a pretty tasty brew from The Lost Abbey, 10 Commandments. Glad it turn-out ok, after hearing about all the bad bottles out there from the brewery.

Okay, I've had a few good and/or interesting brews since I last checked into this thread.

Found some Weyerbacher brews at the local store and got a six pack of Imperial Stout and a four pack of their barley wine. Both were excellent, and the barley wine was especially good. Set a couple bottles aside to age for a while. Should be interesting after a few months.

Picked up sixer of Left Hand Haystack Wheat as well. Tastes and looks pretty much like a hefeweizen to me. Very good, I recommend it highly. Could become a favorite.

Last night I had a couple interesting brews. First was a Lindeman's lambic, the peach version. Fantastic stuff. I'm well known for my hatred of fruity beers, but this stuff is actually great. Had the raspberry stuff a while ago, and it is also excellent.

Also had a Sammy Smith nut brown ale. This one is very good as well. I was much more impressed with this brew than I was with their oatmeal stout, which was good, but overhyped in my opinion.

Well, there's the last two months' worth of my beer explorations for y'all.

Avery 'Collaboration Not Litigation' 3rd batch. Good as a treat overall, but I prefer Avery Salvation. Cannot speak of Russian River Salvation as it is not available where I live. Anyone try them both and have an opinion? or all 3 (any batch/year)?

I've had all three, I would buy the RR Salvation again.
