Beer talk

St. Rogue Red today. I think I like it but really cann't make up my mind about it. I better have another to figure it out.

Some people say the Surly Darkness is better or gives it a run for it's money, it's all subjective anyways. I have a bottle of Darkness (2008), I've had Dark Lord twice, and both bottles were cellar for a year, 2006 drank in 2007, 2007 drank in 2008. Both were fantastic.

Tonight a pretty tasty brew, Stone Cali-Belgique.

Trying a Sierra Nevada brew tonight, Bigfoot Barleywine Style Ale. Again, way too hoppy for my taste...should've looked it up, first. It's got a whopping 90 IBU's, waaaay too much for my palate. That is, of course, compensated by the 9.6 ABV, though. :D

edit: Also picked up a bottle of Coney Island Freaktoberfest tonight...should be interesting...

Gentlemen,

In my very humble opinion this thread has become quite important from a review standpoint and as a reference for folks like me to check out prior to my weekend pub romps. I just wanted to say THANX to the likes of: db, riffraff, Shaolin and a whole host of others for my brew beverage education here as of late.

Its pretty  to come in here and see a preview of what I may want enjoy on any given Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday..

Much Obliged fellow's. :)

As a great man(can't remember who at the moment) once said. . . "Life without Beer is just a real plain life at best".

Best,

Anthony

Yesterday, after a nice evening meal, I relaxed while enjoying a Kuhnhenn Raspberry Eisbock...My Lord, what a brew! As you can see, the 2007 vintage comes in a small bottle - 6.3oz. This little thing is LOADED with flavours! Fruits - raspberry of course, but candied...also dark caramel, and hints of dark chocolate. At 11.9% abv, the alcool is present, but not overwhelming at all. Makes me want to make the trip down to Michigan :D
Highly recommended...

Monday night, a bizarro brew called Coney Island Freaktoberfest. Apparently brewed for Oktoberfest 2008, it's called a red ale, and actually pours RED. Pinkish head. "Real fake zombie blood added!" Obviously red food coloring, it's appearance is very odd. An average ale, taste-wise. Fun, though. It's ABV is...6.66%. :D

The other day I had a pint of cask-conditioned Wychwood Hobgoblin in the Boot Inn:

It is a very full-flavoured beer, heavy on the dark malts. It seems to explode flavours in the mouth and the aftertaste lingers and lingers.

There is a review here:
http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/drinks/wychwood-hobgoblin-extra-strong-ale/1000033/

"As with the aroma the base flavours of Hobgoblin are dark chocolate and roasted malt. The flavour tastes treacley and thick, with hints of toffee, nuts, liquorice and fruit. There is a rich pluminess that gives an underlying sweetness, combined with a bitterness and citrus hop character. This leads to a finish that is malty, with coffee flavours. The aftertaste is lingering and warm ~ the liquorice is present here too, along with a slight hoppiness and hints of treacle toffee."

All I can say is yup, that's pretty much what it tastes like.

Meh, after too many over-hopped trial brews, I went back to my old standby tonight, Fat Tire.

New Belgium has a couple of other brews I like better-1554, a black ale and Trippel, a tripple brewed Belgian Ale that is 7.8% ABV. Fat Tire is 5.2%.

i just drank a pabst blue ribbon (PBR) and i know but i just cant hate a beer that i became so fond of in high school :D

Today a very delicious brew, highly recommended the best one I've had this year so far. Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad (BBQ).
