American English doesn't seem to make any distinction between the land-going Tortoise, the aquatic Terrapin often kept as pets and the large ocean going Turtle - all are shelled reptiles. Formerly, British, Aus and other varieties of English made this distinction- some of it may be to do with re-assessing scientific terms or just homogenisation of everything :poop: Tortoiseshell was a prized material in the c19th -early c20th for artefacts - pens, jewellery, ornaments, combs and KNIFE HANDLES this became a problem as Turtle population were reduced by hunting, soup making and generally by homo sapiens' insane population growth.

Maybe an exclusive range of quarter century Forum Knives will be offered in Tortoiseshell acrylic even though Spark prefers natural materials but GEC does do very fine faux Tortoise

It does. All tortoise are in the turtle family,(Testudines or Chelonia) however as you have pointed out not all turtles are tortoise. The little fella that I came across on my hike is a North American box turtle not a tortoise. Since, the North American box turtle (terrapene family)is only found in North America it may confuse the limits of the other varieties of English. 😉

Norfolk is a terrier. A turtle is mainly aquatic and tortoise is mainly terrestrial. Your welcome 😂

Oh also. Sometimes getting a steel sports Rolex is easy. Went in and asked about a Sub for a wedding watch. 3 days later got a call that they had one (Mid 2020). The allocation manager chooses who gets what. Even if they get a slight feeling it’ll be flipped you will be skipped. Probably also helped I wanted mine engraved and had it sized that day. No prior purchases either. My child will inherit it one day.

Except when it's a North American Box Turtle which is mainly terrestrial o_O
Or when it's a Galapagos tortoise which doesn't swim but is buoyant in sea water.

All I know about Norfolk is that Chuck Berry left his home there with California on his mind and had quite the ordeal along the way... 🤣
