Does the fellow enjoying a spot of upland bird hunting with his dogs indicate that there will be a run of #48s after this?
That's what I would love it to be. But it might as well just symbolize the bird hook, on any appropriate pattern.

Maybe the knife is whatever pattern you need it to be… and maybe if you lick it, it tastes like your favorite knife oil… what ever it is! And Bill Howard is Willy Wonka…
I’m partial to KPL original. Tastes like vanilla cherry swirl ice cream!

Disagree with your quote. He states they are Swayback, which is also the characteristic of Norfolk/Wharncliffe knives. He also says in the quote they are "small knives" The 34 is not small nor appears Swayback and is Equal End (Norfolks have a larger bolster for the master blade)

Levine 1985: 157 see also p.128 for Surveyor Jacks.

Of course it could be that Bill H. decided to interpret the pattern himself and turned it upside down making for what Levine calls an ' unseaworthy canoe' :D:cool: It's been suggested that somebody could ask him, good luck:)
Really helpful stuff, thanks for the info!

I think that's what's coming up.

Going to take a long shot guess... I've got 48's on the brain from another thread I was just on, but maybe 48 bird hunter/woodcock?

I haven’t been hunting in years but if they do another 48 I’m down for the full sized clip and wharncliffe improved trapper they did a few years back.

Then again we just had that sowbelly with the same blades, I’ll keep my eye on the secondary.

Mostly unrelated to any of this... but since we are talking about bird hook 48's. I've always thought GEC could pull off a good smokers knife fairly easy. Just straighten out the bird hook a bit. Here's a Sheffield.

I would so love this! I’ve been hoping for one for years.

I would be so down with that. Who can convince Bill?
