I first read this post as though you tried to put a peach in your mouth and light it on fire. Then I realized you meant putting it in a smoker and trying to eat it afterwards.

Lol, I think it's often called a pipe knife. In my mind I alway figured they would use a straighten out bird hook from the 48 as the poker and make the tamper the way they designed the calf pens.

Here's a rough rider, but it's not quite right without a tamper.

Whatever the pokey end part is on a calf pen seems like would be a way to bend that into a tamper.. and I guess the adventurous could use a stoutly make tamper as a cap lifter maybe. You would probably want the tamper on the other end like the Sheffield.

Similar thing Dan ...back in the 70s ...the sinkers and stuff went in the handle and into your pocket for easy transport....not sure where one put all the fish one caught though...I guess one would still need a bucket of some sort and a knife to gut them and a scaler....and bait to I spose.
