Believe the hype.

They do get a lot of love here on BF. KSF is "KnivesShipFree" which is primarily an internet based knife dealer but maintains a store in Northern Michigan. They are in the process of moving to TN however.
Gotchya, they are up in escanaba in the upper peninsula. 3 or 4 hours away I think. I've never been to escanaba.

Can't wait to see pictures when you get yours Bella ... I hope it's everything you expect ... I think you'll enjoy it.

I've never owned or even handled one. They just don't appeal to me at all.

I'd like to handle one someday but I don't think that will change my mind.

Congrats! Use the crap out of it - make memories with patina and use. The ‘Zaan was my first CRK and it’s by far my favorite folder. I have other CRKs, but they’re not the ‘Zaan. YMMV.

I’m curious as to why people need to post their opinions of CRK on a guy’s thread about his first CRK?

Thanks man. I'm really excited. I should have grabbed it six months ago when I had the funds. It looks to arrive tomorrow.

While I've never owned or handled a CR knife one thing I do like is the frame lock cutout is on the inside of the knife. It just looks way more sexier/finished if you will than on the outside of the handle like most other knife makers folders.

Because the thread title clearly aims towards reassuring people that buying a CRK is the right thing to do and they're the best. It's a User expressing his opinion. IMO there's nothing wrong with saying otherwise so that people researching into buying an CRK see that not everybody believes they're worth it etc.

"Worth it" is the key. I think just about everyone here believes they make a good knife. It's a matter of resource allotment (money) and they are simply beyond what I am willing to pay these days. That could change, but I doubt it. I wouldn't group myself in the "CRK hater" group, because I don't. I look at them every year at the Blade Show if I attend. There is often a pretty good crowd at their booth. That used to be true of Strider, but that interest has settled down considerably.

It sure sucks when people randomly want to offer their opinions about blades, that's the worst. I think those people should take their conversation to a discussion forum about blades, a blade forum if you will, because that's where people are supposed to discuss their opinions of blades.

The most heated threads tend be Strider, Bark River, and Emerson they're actually polarizing. CRK threads to just rest on price for many $500 is hard to swallow for materials and that point is valid.

That's true. I always enjoy reading the exciting Emerson threads.. And I feel exactly that way about what they offer for the price so I can't be a hypocrite about CRK.

Regarding price it's $375 for a small Inkosi or Sebenza. $425 with a graphic. And the large Sebenza, Inkosi and Umnum are $450 so that's not so bad. Embellishments bring the price up.

So we can't label it $500 can we?;)

The market is pretty huge at the moment. At the end of the day there is something for everybody.

I enjoy Spyderco, Ka Bar, Benchmade, Dozier etc. Just as much for what they have to offer. No matter what knives I always come back to CRK.

Now a Demko is the only thing I have not tried that I'd like to.

The Zaan is the first "high end" knife I plan on getting, when I get there. And I want to use the heck out of it - no safe queens here.

I own 5 CRKs, all bought new, and my favorites are my large Insingo and small Inkosi (both plain). My first was a large regular Sebenza bought back in 2002. My only complaint about any of my CRKs is that my 2002 Seb came dull as a butterknife. But I ended up reprofiling the edge (on my Sharpmaker!) and it ended up great. If I ever get a 6th, it will likely be a large drop point Inkosi.

CRK, along with Victorinox and Spyderco, are my "big 3" when it comes to buying and using knives.

Yes, I am a fan of CRK (and Victorinox and Spyderco), but I don't consider myself a 'fanboy' of anyone. If somebody doesn't like them, or they aren't for them, that's great. That's why there's so many options out there. In the same way, I've said that, although I've discovered through trial and error that Emersons are not for me, I know they definitely appeal to and work for lots of people. It's not a knock on Emerson or his knives, just a personal opinion based on my own experiences with them on and off over a few years' time. If someone decides at a glance, or just by handling, that CRKs are not for them, that's fine as well. Nobody HAS to buy or like a particular knife to have an opinion about it; unless, of course, someone is just out-and-out trolling and says "CRKs suck and aren't as good as a Frost Cutlery folder," or similar comments.

Exactly. Here is a guy who is more than thrilled with his first CRK purchase and some feel the need to pop this guys balloon. . . go figure.
If the poster had opened this thread in the CRK forum he probably would have gotten a better response.

Enjoy your new CRK Bradytx. You posted in the general knife forum like I did when I first got my small sebenza last month. I was not aware that there is an actual Chris Reeve forum "under manufacturers". Sure they are expensive, so is a BMW over a Hyundai. But for me its like buying a $9.99 tie at the past season rack at Marshalls or a $50 tie at Macy's . . . You just feel better all day in your $50 tie! Now when you carry around your new CRK you will know that you are now one of the "chosen ones".

Anyone of them is a joy to own from what I read in the forums. My 2nd one, a 21 arrives tomorrow! The members in the Chris Reeve forum understand where your excitement is coming from more than the general discussion forum will.

Do another post in the CRK forum (change your post around a little so its not duplicate posting) here you are sure to get a much warmer welcome:

And welcome to the club!

If you find yourself playing with your new knife "in bed" a lot because you don't want to let go of it . . . this is quite normal :D

I wanted to offer a couple thoughts.

First, I too received my first Umnumzaan this week. We are still getting to know each other, but I am really enjoying the process. I have been a Sebenza person for about a year and a half, and operation on the Umnumzaan is a lot different.

Second, I really agree with the sentiment of the OP’s opinion. I went through a few knives before getting my first Sebenza. The CRK products offer a lot to like. Materials, build quality, timeless design, domestic production, availability, lifetime support - checks a lot of boxes for me. They are expensive, but how often does someone with a collection of $60-$120 Spydercos, or a collection of $90-$190 Benchmade knives say that they would never pay $450 for a knife? These people could have $1500 (or more) spread over a dozen knives. If collecting is your thing, then I get it, but I’d take 3 CRK’s over a table full of Spydercos every day.

I recently handled my first PM2; possibly the most popular EDC knife on the forum. Price was good, build quality was good, materials were good. Nothing was great. The Sebenza that was sitting home on my night stand was great, so I asked myself, “why am I carrying around the pm2, and keeping my Sebenza in a drawer?”. The PM2 was sold to help fund a second CRK.

Enjoy your new Umnumzaan. I am enjoying mine.
