Benchmade 710: A truley classic knife

Much appreciated. I really like the shape and feel of the knife. The D2 is my use it to death 710 and the HS is kind of a safe queen.
Thanks again, Frank.
M2 is a awesome steel. (The Best IMO)
You are quite blessed to have that.
I would not hesitate to use it.
You would be very hard pressed to find anything better.
Here's a pic of my M2 710 user.......Love it!

I know most people prefer barrel spacers but I quite like the look of the stock back spacer on my D2 710. Not sure why. I just dig it. However , I do also like the look of the blue anodized barrel spacers on the KW Exclusive 710-1401.

Thank you for that but I keep it with a balisong mod 42 that is still in the box and unused. Just can not bring myself to mark them up. I have plenty of other knives I do not have any attachment to so I guess this and the 42 will spend the rest of my life in comfort. ;)
Frank.

Got lucky when I found mine. May have to part with it, though.

Got my D2 riding in my pocket now. My M2HS with combo edge is sitting in a case. It's been around the block A LOT, but the only thing it needs is the edge to be reset via Lifesharp guarantee. I used these daily in a tip up fashion in the right front or right back pocket, with the clip set up for left hand carry. This allowed me to draw the knife in a reverse grip and flick it open really quickly while turning it to a reverse grip edge-in hold. Love this knife for pakal grip! Although it's very rough on the lock as the M2HS lock up has a lot of blade play

Getting the model 710 and a model 51 later this week...I'm pretty excited, this will be my 5th and 6th Benchmade...My 904 kicked my Spyderco Endura out of my pocket a few months ago and I havent looked back...Got to say I missed a lot of years of knife ownership without having a Benchmade, sad thing is that I only live 2 hrs from where they are manufactured, shame on me..

Those 710's with the cutout liners are very early models and hard to find. Yet along the lines of longevity the knife hasn't changed very much in all these years. I own four and probably will buy another couple before I'm through. Such great as they are.

I'm looking at a 710D2 I purchased new in about 2007 or 2008 and I fail to see how the liners are any different than mine. What should I be looking for?

Glad you upgraded the Spyderco, I can't see ever carrying one when there are so many better and higher quality options out there.

The liners themselves haven't changed much. Blades on the other hand have, over the years, had more or less recurve, also some had a great looking rounded spine, (upgraded steel, esp. in M4...) and on my 710-1 from KnifeWorks, the liners were polished. Like other knives, the minor changes over the years still reflect how popular the 710 is in all of it's variants. 15 years and still going strong, every serious Benchmade fan should own one.

Yes, mine has those. So what tool would we use to take them apart?

Mine has those as well, but the lock button doesn't stick out as far.

On a side note has anyone noticed the price on them has fluctuated a bit. I think I paid around $115-$120 for mine back in 2008 and about a year or year and a half ago I was looking at them and they were around $180. Now I'm seeing them for $153, what's going on there? Did they open another production plant or something?

I'm tempted to pick up one of the KW M390 710's. But I've read numerous times about the blade sticking out past the handle scales when in the closed position. So unless I find out that all the remaining M390 710's in KW's stock are not of the defective variety , I'm going to stay away. But I did almost pull the trigger this morning.

No you're seeing a major price increase, based on their MAP formula. Same production plant. Same problems. (Couldn't resist...)

I bought my 710hs from discount-knives in the summer of 2000. At that time retail was $178. I have a dozen or so good pocket knives, and have sold, given, or traded away several dozen more over the last 20 years or so. The 710hs is still the one that gets the most pocket time and use. Damn good knife.

154cm should be offered again for the 710. Keeping rust off the D2 version is a PIA. Love the 710. My first Benchmade and still the best

Oh man, this thread just convinced me. I was going back and forth between getting a 710 tomorrow or something smaller, like a mini barrage. I've always wanted a 710, but I've never pulled the trigger, for some justification or another. Now, I think it's finally time to go for it. I'm inspired by the love shown here.

If this 710 is like other models, pull the Axis bar back and insert a Q-tip (or at least a section of one) through the slot to keep the bar and springs compressed. Remove the pivot and both blade and washers will slide out. Do your cleaning and reverse the process. I use a toothpick to help align the washers. (So as to not scratch.) Also a drop or two of oil can help keep them (the washers) on the blade long enough to finish reinserting and aligning everything. Then insert the pivot and adjust as you need to. It just takes a little practice.

That's a great idea. I'll have to give it a shot.
