Benchmade 710: A truley classic knife

There are some pretty nice Spydercos. The Endura just isn't one of them...

I'm a believer now in the following....

If it ain't a Busse...then it better be a Benchmade....

10 examples I now own, every last one of them are flawless and give me the warm and fuzzies...I just didn't ever fall in love with Spyderco, not that they are not good just not for me...

I just picked up a 710 D2 in the Classies, in part because of this thread and the Quintessential Benchmade thread. I understood the following about 1 minute after taking it out of the blue box. It's a big blade in a manageable package. It's got some heft to it, but that only makes it reassuring, not heavy. It carries great--had it with me all day and it rides very well in the pocket. Physics help that big blade swing right out. My example is smooth, solid, and the grinds--all of them including the bevel, are excellent. I don't really need to re-profile it, but I am going to put a new edge on it and is if I can get that D2 screaming sharp. This one is a classic for a reason, and I'm very happy to own one.

I love my 710. If I could change one thing about it, I would like it in S30V. The D2 just does not cooperate with me when I try to sharpen it.

I have 11 various 710 model, and I want More :D My favorite knife ever.
Here is truly classic from '99 ATS-34 Bali-song Benchmade

I'm tempted to pick up one of the KW M390 710's. But I've read numerous times about the blade sticking out past the handle scales when in the closed position. So unless I find out that all the remaining M390 710's in KW's stock are not of the defective variety , I'm going to stay away. But I did almost pull the trigger this morning.

I bought my M390 710 a few months ago and the blade stuck out ever so slightly. Didn't care much at first but it eventually started to bother me. Last night I took the knife apart and removed just a little material from the surface of the blade that contacts the stop pin when closed. It's perfect now. Took all of 20 minutes. I know I shouldn't have to do that to a new knife but it's better than sending it back and being without it for a few weeks. I also polished the washers on a fine than ultra fine stone and it's much smoother now.
