Benchmade 761 is in stock!

Torn it down today to look at detent. I starting to think about drilling out the blade side of detent just a hair more to allow ball to sit in snugger. Im really thinking it may have been as simple as the CNC not drilling the correct hole size. May do some heat work on thumb stud and standoffs.

My pivot has stayed fast since Dec 3rd! I believe it was backing out due to the excessive oil that came on my 761. Since the oil has dissipated the threads of my pivot have stay put. I open it all day every day too.

Such a beautiful and great knife. :D

WoW! It must be a piece by piece issue. I was angry by the way the detent was discounted in that video. Especially when mine was as stiff as my Spyderco Militarys. I'm sorry you got such a weak one.

I gave the lockbar a tweak making the detent better. But I can still shake it out with little effort.

Sorry bout that. Mine feels great. I can't even flick the shxt out of it, and have the blade come loose. My pivot backed out twice when I first got it, but hasn't been a problem since the 3rd of Dec. Mine arrived saturated with oil. Since it dried up no issues.

Love this knife.

I received a 761 form my wife for Christmas. I adjusted the pivot screw slightly to tighten the lock up. Then to eliminate a small amount of vertical blade play, I adjusted the hex nut next to the blade tang and then held it securely in place while I re tightened the set screw. Now the lock up is secure in both directions and I really like this knife. Beautiful piece. Though I prefer tip down carry, tip up doesn t keep me from carrying other favorites (Spyd. Military). The lack of detente doesn t bother me either. After looking at the video above, I looked at a number of my better knives. Holding the handles of my closed knife securely, I can shake the blade out of my Hinderer XM, my Strider SNG, and my Lone Wolf T2. These are all great knives that I enjoy carrying and using. On the other hand, my ZT 561 , although flipping open with a great action, has such a strong detente, that I have a hard time opening it with the stud. I don t carry it. The 761 reminds me of my Bradley Alias 1 with a similar nice thin grind and a smooth action but a better blade steel. Not a Sebenza, but a better steel and a better price. I ll see how it holds up to some medium hard outdoors work. Only the second Benchmade to attract me since the price change. Very impressive.

I got one from my wife for Christmas as well. My blade was not centered properly. I centered the blade and set the pivot pretty easily. Since then, I've opened and closed the blade at least 400 times (wife is starting to question why she bought me this..) and my detent is holding strong and the pivot hasn't changed yet. Really loving the feel of the Ti handle and the smooth opening pivot. I don't like how tight the clip holds my pants although I do like the way it looks. It's more like a pocket lock than a pocket clip, which might be appropriate for a $300+ knife I guess, but not my favorite clip design in function. Regardless of any nitpicking about clip details, I love the knife and it will be my favorite EDC until the next one comes along....

Just read this entire thread!

I get mine tomorrow from Benchmade. I'm looking forward to it as I just picked up a large Sebenza 21 and I prefer tip down carry so this might suite me a little better. Plus I am not adjusting to the mechanical opening of the sebenza, and prefer knives that are easily flicked open. My local dealer had one when I first looked at the Sebenzas and after handling it I knew it was a knife I needed to own.

I do hope they offer a "mini" version though. I wouldn't even think about it, I would just order it!

I just put a deposit down on number 55/1000 I have never handled a knife that opes as smooth as the 761. I have assisted knives that are harder to open. I early wanted a 0562Cf but they are so hard to find that by the tie I recoup the cost of the 761 the 0562cf will probably be readily available.

Well, here's another fine knife with no option for left hand carry. I would have said the same about the 940-1 but it gave that needed option and is in my rotation.:(

I have been on a quest for a high end titanium folder, but I also wanted a knife I could use every day without worrying about every scratch. I took a serious look at all of the usual players, but nothing hit all the marks until I saw this blade. For the record, I don't have many folders, in fact, I often have to sell one or two to be able to afford a really nice one. So, you can rest assured that I did my research on this knife and the good news is that I didn't settle for the 761, I chose it. Those higher priced titanium blades are gorgeous too, but this was the one for me. The list of features on this knife is amazing and Benchmade, while not perfect, stands behind their knives. I think they're a great company. This thing is smooooth and had no issues out of the box. I should also note that tip down carry, while new to me, has caused zero problems. Buy this knife and enjoy using it. I know I sure am. God bless.

Good post above .......this is definitely a great knife , I had to buy two of them and Benchmade definitely stands behind there products.

Has anyone used one of these to the point where they had to readjust the lock-bar? I probably am not using the correct terminology, but some people expressed their annoyance that BM chose to put that little step in the lock-bar cutout that limits travel. I believe that adjustment (rotation?) to the stop pin will move the lock-bar back to an earlier location on the tang. I was just curious about how much use it would take to make this necessary. If it is working out for everyone, I find this feature on the lock-bar both unique and ingenious.

I have been using mine hard for several weeks and have no movement in the lock bar. I am not worried about it because I know if there are any issues, Benchmade will take care of me. :)

ive had mine for over a month now and no issues, lock bar solid, no blade play, detent is good, bearings are smooth. yes ive made some other mods to mine but thats just me. very pleased with this knife!!
