If this was directed at me ........I have two on order , the wait is killing me .........LOL
Maybe the wait will get me unmarked blades , meaning no 1st pro.

This time of year my fingers and thumbs split from the dry weather. It hurts to unlock the 761. The lock is so strong it hurts.

My Fluted titanium Military and my Titanium Benchmade Lum aren't even close to the tension of the 761. It doesn't need a over travel stop at all. The lines and design continuously impress me.

I am far from a Benchmade fanboy. I hate that they make such small blades. That they cater to the tip-up wackos. I can't be less of a stand off of Benchmade. There are only 5 that meet my expectations. The 761 trumps them all. Blade shape, overall design, and Ti design with super steel. CRK has reason to be jealous.

I received my 761 a few days ago, and like usual for me, I was a bit let down. I think that's because you build up this impression of what you're getting and then the first impression of the actual item does not always meet that expectation. However, (like usual) after having it a few days I can say this is one very fine blade. Everything about it is refined and engineered to a high standard. It's number 768/1000. The blade is perfectly centered & sharp, it is ultimately smooth riding on the bearings (which you can easily see with back-lighting), and it has a very cool lock-up thunk sound. The 3D machining and details like jimping are awesome features.

The amount of material remaining on the lock bar cut-out is deceiving due to the radius of the large chamfer, which comes out near the same location on the scale. There is a fair amount of titanium left towards the inside even though it appears very thin at the edge. It's very similar to a small Sebenza 21 and just a little less than a Sebenza 25. I can't get a caliper on them to measure due to the non-planar geometries on any of them. I do believe the retainer clip on the 761 helps to perform as an over-travel stop. I say that due to it's size, location, and rigidity. I don't know if Benchmade designed it that way, but it's my best engineering guess. And when comparing the amount of lock bar contact between the 761 and a Sebenza 25, for example, remember the Sebenza contacts solely on that 0.125 diameter ceramic ball and nothing more. That's a point contact whereas the 761 is showing 0.110 x 0.075 contact from the rub marks. And, it feels totally solid when locked-up.

So aside from scuff marks on the clip which I assume came from the factory, I really like the 761 and don't have a single concern about performance or long-term durability.

Good info and write up Wavicle,,, ! :-) looked it over well in the store when it came in,,,they had just gotten it,,could not find a thing that didn't speak high quality! Was thinking of getting myself a treat for my 65th birthday which is on the 22nd,,,,saw 22/1000 on the blade =-0,,,,,,, :-) and that cinched it!!!!!

Looks like a nice knife. I don't understand the lanyard hole if it's only going to be tip down.

Its what happens when you try to please everyone all of the time. LOL If there wasn't a lanyard hole there would sertainly be complaints that there wasn't one

Truly a beautiful knife-would definitely like one. It falls short for me if you want it as a personal defense knife (PDK) with the slightest oil, water, sweat or blood on the handle it becomes a danger to the individual holding it, I'll take G 10 or even micarta or even some kind of machined surface before a smooth metal handle. Otherwise it is very nice to look at and use for maybe household chores-but 300 for a letter opener is too rich for my pocketbook

The Ti frame is sand blasted. It's not smooth.

I didn't flinch at the price. It's only $40 more than my Fluted titanium Military, and it's m390

The textured surface is anything but smooth metal. It feels more like an emery board or stone from the blast treatment. There is abundant purchase when it's wet, same with treatments like Tuf-Glide or silicone. Have not tried blood, but my guess is that it maintains that grip. It's almost like they open up the pores of the metal, for an analogy. If you get a chance to hold one, I'd highly recommend it. You may be surprised.

The titanium handles on the Benchmade 761 are gritty enough to provide good texture and grip wet or dry.

I wonder if DJdawg ever got his? If so what do you think so far!!!????? I have some micro blade play side to side so may tighten the pivot if it's worse later but for now I'll leave it I think? Hard to notice unless you put some pressure back and forth while really holding on to it!

Havent gotten it yet ...............:grumpy:
Still waiting ............I saw one though at a store here in town ............. the pivot on it was loose too ...........best way to fix that is tighten the pivot down , but put "BLUE" locktite on the threads
Let it sit over night and it should be good to go.
I really liked the one I saw .........the loose pivot is nothin to worry about.
Talk about smooth ............ these glide open.

Yea I'm not concerned any ,it's just a micro amount and I want to work it in more before I dial it in to perfection!hope you get yours soon dawg, I'm still impressed with mine!;)

I have had mine a week and have been EDCing it and enjoying it very much. The detent on mine is almost nonexistent. Its not a huge deal but leads to a few misfires on deploys.

Got mine a few days ago. I haven't carried it yet, just because I'm on a fixed blade binge, but impressions so far after fondeling it are that it is super refined and elegant in a simple kind of way, crazy smooth, and larger in hand than I thought. The texture on the handle is like others have stated, just enough to not be slippery, but not enough to be too much. The larger size is a pleasant surprise for me, reading specs on knives never really sinks in for me until I actually hold a knife, some 9" knives don't feel like I would think and the same goes for smaller knives. I can't reccomend it enough. I know some people won't consider it because it's not an Axis, but they'd be missing out. Also the lock is super easy and correctly placed for me. Brad.

WoW! It must be a piece by piece issue. I was angry by the way the detent was discounted in that video. Especially when mine was as stiff as my Spyderco Militarys. I'm sorry you got such a weak one.

My detents are good also ...........Iam liking the knife alot.
My only issue is covering the pivot adjustment , but thats not really anything to squabble about............ mine are good on both knives.
I see no problems with these.
