Benchmade 806 AFCK m4 is out...but no luck

they prob only have one that has the stamp for the 806 liners, and they might have some scheduling conflict

So why not just waterjet or laser cut them instead? With all the CNC machine shops out there running under capacity I would think they would have subcontractors chomping at the bit for a little contract work.

I managed to get on the waiting list at Knifeworks several months ago. Roger was selling them for $199, so I got one plain edge. There is gouging going on, but there are also solid dealers out there who are not gouging, even though they could.

But it is an insider's game.

I never even saw them on the Knifeworks site. Were they only listed in some special section away from the normal BM knives?

Who said the old 806 was not popular. The msrp was $119 i think they will bring nib pe in dt $300 easy, now isn't that a good investment.thatz better than buying colt.......:)

Those rascals at Benchmade.

They do like to PO their customer base lately.

A couple years ago they offered a limited edition Sequel with CF inserts and an S30V blade: the 707-701.

This was originally offered for sale only outside the USA.

People paid big bucks to import one, (or 2 or 3).

They apparently didn’t sell too well abroad because they ended up selling the remainder in the USA.

I just happened to be surfing the web and saw several for sale at a dealer in the states. I snatched one up right away. The price was very reasonable.

I posted the grail find on BM forums. Boy did the spit hit the fan!

Interestingly, that 707-701, (not for the U.S. market), turned out to be the smoothest, best built Benchmade I have ever owned. There is a definite difference in quality. It makes me wonder what the rest of the world gets that we don’t.

I think I got #364 out of 500.
I use it all the time.

I have no safe queens.

The bottom one is the one bearcut is talking about, and yes, it is one of the best ever (smoothness, finish, edge...)

It simply wouldn't be cost effective to custom order a small batch of liners. BM produced the number of knives they could with the materials they had on hand. I just wish they hadn't combo edged half the batch, it would have certainly cut down on the complaining and searching.

It wasn't put on the website because they didn't need to advertise them to sell their quota. People were calling asking dealers to get them this knife when BM first announced they would make it. Even more started calling and requesting it when BM gave the pre-launch notice.

Was Spyderco the sub? Dat's a big hole in da blade!

Seriously, probably a neato knife - but 'Homey don't play that game!'. Folks enjoying a little entrepreneurship at other's expense - buy low, sell high - capitalism at it's best. Fortunately for me, I've met my bag limit on knives for a bit. Anyway, where'd these tart grapes come from?

Congrats to those of you who want 'em and get 'em. Let us know what you think of them.

If the 806 was a popular knife as concerns sales, it would never have went out of regular production.

The model was/is popular with a rather small market - "knife nuts" and some martial arts people.

In the last decade, I don't think I've run into more than a handful of people carrying an AFCK, 800 or 806.

The 806 was BM's more popular model, but waned towards the end of its production when the TSEK was intro'd (and along with the change to 440c as steel snobbery was also a factor).

While I feel bad for people who didn't get them - I can't really see why people are complaining about Benchmade. The M4 AFCK has been in the works on the BM forum for 6 months with a lot of traffic. They posted there that it would be out later this year so if you participated in that forum, you knew it was coming. Once they did that, I signed up for email alerts from their announcement forum and saw the announcement right away. They posted that announcement before many of the dealers even knew it was going to be available - so how can anyone claim "they didn't tell us anything"? They told the user community first - what more do people want?

I started calling premium dealers (using the BM dealer page) about 3 days after the announcement and managed to score 2 PE'ed models from 2 different places. I heard from 2 other dealers that they had CE they'd sell but I wasn't interested. It just doesn't seem like they were impossible to get if you put in some time to call dealers (I called about 8).

I really do feel bad for people who didn't get one (though I wouldn't be surprised if some dealers still had a few for sale) and I do think it's in poor taste for people to buy extra and then sell at a huge markup since it was a basically a forum knife. I just don't see how some folks are blaming Benchmade for this one...

If they truly made as many as they could wouldn’t it have made more sense to have seen a run if 517 or something like that. 500 even seems like a nice even number that they chose for simplicity’s sake.

The TSEK is the model 805 - a better blade design IMO - and the 440C use was an issue in that models lack of populariy.

Knifecenter just called me and told me they sold out of their pre-orders (I pre-ordered from them too late). They do have the combo edge in stock, so here's a heads up. Call knifecenter.

You can probably get it cheaper than that guy trying to sell it for 340 bucks over in the FS/FT forums.

No doubt about that, if you do a little searching and calling a CE can be found for MSRP and maybe a little less. KnifeCenter is a great place to deal with also, they just told me that my PE is on the way. It seems I'll be getting one after all.

theres no way that knife is worth 300.00, at least not to me it isnt. i'd rather have a custom for a little bit more than an all black 806 !

What is it that makes this knife is such demand? It doesn't see to be anything special.. is it a collectors thing?

There are several other model knives that are great and the ACFK is
not necessarily better. Just depends on your preferences. I think
this one just appealed to a lot of people but not many were made so
demand went up. I tried getting one, but best I could find was 200+
on eBay (original model, not this latest M4 model). No thank you.

One thing about the grip that I find interesting. When you hold the knife in the most comfortable way ( index finger in the cutout) it becomes a 5 inch bladed folder. Pretty cool. I don't know how many of my other knives do that. Its like a reverse choke-up. The opposite of what Strider folders do.

I just got mine this afternoon. Knifeworks sold it for $199 with free shipping or $10 for 2-day air.

It's an incredible knife that handles well and feels good in the hand. It's shown next to a Military S90V and a Para-Military CPM D2.

The AFCK was not overly sharp out of the box, but not bad. The blade is perfectly centered. The lock-up is almost perfect -- close enough so I'm not going to mess with it. The blade is not going to be a good a slicer as the Military or Para, but the knife is very, very nice. It exudes quality. It feels heavier and more solid than the two Spydercos, but that's probably because of the full liners.

The axis lock works very well, but mine is not especially lively. All three knives open with about the same smoothness.

Here's some pix:

Sometimes it just takes patience and a few friends. I scored #42 at the $225 MSRP price plus shipping to my house. I'm sorry to see prices of $400 already on places like eBay, but it's a hard to find knife as many of us have noticed, and if one wants to pay those prices to get one and can afford to do so I'd say it's fair game.

For those of you that haven't tried it, M4 is really good stuff - takes a wicked edge and is even easier to get sharp than the venerable M2HS, and stays that way for a long time.

Want a blade in M4 still available and relatively cheap? The 12800-801 Gaucho is still available from that KNIFE place that WORKS...;)
