Benchmade 806 AFCK m4 is out...but no luck

Nice pictures!

I'm glad Benchmade decided to bring this model back, even if it's a short run. Hopefully they'll realize from quick sales that maybe they should bring the 806 back into production.

Bah. Those shots make me jealous. I'm officially leaving this thread. Glad to hear it was an awesome knife though.

I just got mine this afternoon. Knifeworks sold it for $199 with free shipping or $10 for 2-day air.

It's an incredible knife that handles well and feels good in the hand. It's shown next to a Military S90V and a Para-Military CPM D2.

The AFCK was not overly sharp out of the box, but not bad. The blade is perfectly centered. The lock-up is almost perfect -- close enough so I'm not going to mess with it. The blade is not going to be a good a slicer as the Military or Para, but the knife is very, very nice. It exudes quality. It feels heavier and more solid than the two Spydercos, but that's probably because of the full liners.

The axis lock works very well, but mine is not especially lively. All three knives open with about the same smoothness.

I'm just curious about what you say about the lock-up. It's an Axis lock. I've never heard of anyone ever messing with an Axis lock to improve the lock..... explain please. :)

to be honest i did hear about this one a while ago. Blade HQ had them in their new arrivals section so that you could be put on "the list." they've had that up only for a couple of weeks though, at least to my knowledge, but i check their new arrivals section daily, so that info should be correct

I dont like how right after people start getting them they gain 125 dollars in value, i could understand collecting and selling for that after a year or so but not in the month they were relesed, also what about some dealers one i called wanted 299 for it! WTF?

I guess that both Benchmade and the dealers price these knives to move them fast, without taking into account their collector's value, hence the instant gains.

Yeah, under 'whatever the market will bear' banner I understand the higher prices, and this time apparently listening to our requests - Benchmade DID inform their Forum site participants before anyone else.

So it was a matter of jumping on the phone for many and calling the premier dealers - and a result a number of us were able to lock in a few multiples, most from different places.

Given the low number of 500 total: 250 PE and 250 CE, most if not all of these are now gone.

I see already the secondary market's going to heat up for these knives and feel lucky to own even one in PE...!

What I anticipate is Benchmade and other Mfr's are going to put more M4 into the flow - as long as the material is available from Crucible that is.

Question is, since the original AFCK knives weren't big sellers, and a large reason why they were discontinued, what will this short-lived rush to get at these LE's do to the pricing? Be interesting to see...I bet they're going to go up in value.

To my surprise, there is a premium dealer a half mile from my house in my tiny town. I e-mailed them and initially they didn't know anything about it, but after I told them it was a LE run, they checked with Benchmade and e-mailed me this just now:

THE 806BK-901 IS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ON AN ALLOCATION BASIS. THIS MEANS I HAVE TO ORDER IT A SPECIAL WAY.

YOUR COST IS $225.00

PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP! SO I CAN ORDER FOR YOU IF YOU STILL WANT IT!

I thought they were all pretty much spoken for already?

I called a dealer yesterday, and suprisingly they still had a plain edge in stock. Of course, they were asking $350 for it. I said no thanks. It's sad when the dealers mark it up that much.

I had my dealer try to order some more than a week ago. Benchmade told them that all 500 were already ordered and accounted for, and they weren't accepting any more orders.

If the AFCK wasn't a big seller during its time, its definitely become popular in the years since.

Often the case that the value of a thing is not recognised until it has disappeared from view.

I think the price gouging sucks ass. I despise that type of behaviour and I don't care how people try to justify it.

I don't consider it price gouging to sell a luxury item (and thats what this is) at whatever price someone is willing to pay for it. Real price gouging occurs, for example, after a natural disaster when vendors start cranking up the price of staples that you cannot live without - just because they can. We can all live without an AFCK - we just don't want to. :)

I bought one of these suckers off of ebay, and paid way more than msrp. Its quite possible that I'm a big dummy, but I'd rather blow bucks on an AFCK than a golf trip, bass boat or strip club (none of which I do). And a year from now, I'll still have the AFCK and my checking account won't remember what I spent on the knife way back when.

If I had a gripe, and I don't really, it would be at Benchmade for refusing to mass produce the AFCK at $139 (the cost of a Military) and give the consumer what he wants. JMO.

It's still price gouging; you're just saying the consequences of price gouging could be worse in different situations.

When people buy up a lot of extra knives of a limited edition, just to flip them for a quick profit, they are contributing nothing to the use or enjoyment of knives, just making it more expensive and difficult for their fellow man.

I'm starting to see your point. Buying a numbered, limited edition Benchmade in M4 steel and then trying to sell it NIB for a profit is just plain wrong. :D

I'm just goofing with you.

IMHO That depends upon how many will become users vs safe queens. More users will mean higher NIB price some time from now.

There's nothing wrong with making a small profit on a knife you bought way back when and has since become a collector's item.

But buying several of a limited release for the express purpose of selling them for a grossly inflated price once they are sold out is just sleazy IMO.

Knife freaks should not take advantage of other knife freaks!
