Benchmade Adamas realization

I am not sure if a knife design is necessarily validated by its popularity in this way though.

Maybe not, but since people have to part with money to buy it, it certainly is an indicator of it's value.
As a lock isn't a feature of the simple SAK, and they sell butt loads of them, it doesn't seem to be a feature of high importance for people looking for a simple cutting tool.

I'd argue that very few people actually require a lock, they just like the feature.
Our spheniscidae-appreciating friend seems to require a fixed blade.

I would have gone with spheniscidaphile…

… but as an axis lock and slipjoint user who still has all his fingies, my opinion is probably invalid.

Exept there are folders that seem to do what he wants them to do.

Scampering off to find my long lost hard copy dictionary.

I hope this thread remains open.

A very nice gentlemen that goes by Velitrius Velitrius just mailed me an Adamas at a price that shall remain undisclosed, but incredibly generous.

We will see how this model fairs under what I consider hard use for a folder.

The only batonning will be on bananas though, sorry.

Many Mahalos friend.

Drat... had I known about the bananas, I'd have tossed a tanto into the box.... only thing powerful enough.

I am sincerely looking forward to your review!

Slight breech if etiquette, but I triple dog dare you to baton a plantain with it.

Only Adamas I'd buy is a fixed blade...

Had K390 Endura... sold it... I have Recon1 Spear Point now and I'm very happy with it.

Benchmade is good brand, but I never associated "hard use" with them.

The term "hard use" is really relative, which brings up a good point.
There are people who don't want mechanical limitations on their tool usage, which is fine, but it's going to come at a cost.

I’ve heard that if you wait for bananas to get all dark and mottled…and they develop a natural sag…and the cloud of tiny flies scatter as you approach…that even a spear point blade is acceptable.

BUT…I have no personal experience!

I've seen people batoning with a folding knife on YouTube, but I'll go out on a limb and not baton that limb with a folding knife to say that that's outside of acceptable use for a folding knife.
Maybe, it's that whole Gotcha Culture thing to expose the weakness of a locked folder when batoning, but I'm pretty certain that my knives would take out a restraining order against me if I did that to one of mine. Batoning wood is something you shouldn't even be doing with most fixed blades, although there are some heavies that are well suited to it.

I like my Benchmade knives and haven't the lock fail on me, but I have to admit that for a heavy duty knife I do prefer my Cold Steel AD-10 to my Benchmade Adamas, which is more to do with ergonomics for my large hands. Right now, my winter work jacket has a Benchmade Griptilian tucked into a pocket for the next few weeks.

On the subject of slipjoints being cheaper, there are a lot of expensive slipjoint knives out there. Boker Solingen, MKM, Viper, Lion Steel, and a lot of Case knives come to mind. When I rotated in a Real Steel Luna Lite as my kitchen folder for six months (for processing packaging and save my kitchen knives for cutting food), I didn't find regularly using a slipjoint was a problem.
