Benchmade Adamas realization

Maybe not, but since people have to part with money to buy it, it certainly is an indicator of it's value.
As a lock isn't a feature of the simple SAK, and they sell butt loads of them, it doesn't seem to be a feature of high importance for people looking for a simple cutting tool.

I'd argue that very few people actually require a lock, they just like the feature.
Our spheniscidae-appreciating friend seems to require a fixed blade.
I rotate a couple of cheap slipjoints now and again. One is a Rough Ryder and the other is a Smith and Wesson.

They were both gifts from relatives, so I try to do them the justice of carrying them and using them once in a while.

The lack of lock doesn't even enter my thoughts. I have never once altered my knife use depending on whether the knife I was using had a lock or not.

It's probably the shoddy quality that will bite me one day with one of these, but it won't be for lack of locking blade.

Guess who showed up for dinner!

😁

Mahalos again friend. I look forward to seeing how this puppy performs.

I have a few Axis locks and the only time I had an Omega spring fail was on a Bugout I had just changed the scales on.

I have now owned 2 adamas’s and 1 mini adamas. I love what these knives tried to be. But all 3 of them, had lock failure. The first one i noticed while cutting a plastic band on a pallet of brick at work, i cut through it with some force, as they are hard af to cut, amd the adamas cutting profile isnt good. The blade somehow came out of the lock and clipped the corner of my finger. So i locked it back up and lightly tapped the spine, lock failed again. I returned it to benchmade got credit bought another, knowingly i got it, and battoned a piece of wood for my smoker, this wood i could split with a pencil, its stupid dry and some sort of incredibly weak pine about 2” diameter, lock failed. Sent it back they “fixed it” failed again. Sometime later bought a mini adamas used, guy said he never really used it. I honestly thought it wouldnt fail aftwr about a week of use i was using the spine with the knife open to pry open a bin of hydrualic cement with a plastic paint can cap kinda thing… almost no pressure was put on it, it failed…
Morale of the story this knife series is the worst knife series of all time, perhaps the worst folding knife ever made. Every single person i know or have seen on social media used one, it fails. It isnt safe, and its STILL marketed as heavy use… plus personally i have not seen benchmade say a single thing. All they have to do is add a 1/4 inch to the bottom of the blade where the lock sits but they dont care about the safety or needs of their customers. It is just sad
As mentioned in a post of mine from my yesterday, my mini adamas failed miserably in this area. I was not aware of the problem until I seen it on YouTube. I lightly tapped the spine of the blade on my steel toe and sure enough it failed. Never carried it again. I do have a full sized adamas that so far has not had this issue. As far as sending anything back to benchmade I don't bother. I have heard too many stories like yours where people send them back and the knife returns with the same issue and sometimes with a butchered edge even though no permission was given to sharpen.. I have recently drifted over to using spydercos and have had no issues. Can you tell me what the manufacture date was on all three of your knives that failed? I have a suspicion that benchmade quietly fixed the issue in their process (without ever admitting that there was a problem to begin with). My mini was manufactured 11/21. My full size, 11/22. I'm thinking somewhere within that time period is when they corrected it. This has been a sore spot with me for awhile now especially since the mini was given to me as a gift. It is unconscionable if benchnade did not go back to their drawing board and correct this especially since it is a safety issue.

As an opinion to all i had a 980 turret… i beat the absolute hell out of that knife never failed so if you want to get an adamas find an old 980 turret lol
My mini adamas failed. I have a turret and it's one of the most solid knives I have ever owned

This is your opinion only. I've got four Adamas, one of 'em an auto and have never experienced this whatsoever. Maybe you're clinching up on the knife and somehow sliding the crossbar forward? They're some of my favorite knives.
This is not his opinion it's fact. My mini adamas could not handle even the lightest taps on the spine without failing. At some point benchmade fixed this issue. Or only some had the issue to begin with. I can tell you though the problem is real

So if you hit the spine of your mini Adamas against a wood table it'll hold strong? It doesn't have to be flailing the knife against the table just a good firm whack. Because mine fails where every single of my other knives including shitty $30 Gerbers hold up. And to be clear I like my mini Adamas, but it really shouldn't be labeled as a "hard use" knife when a good accidental hit on the spine might have it close on your hand.
Same with mine. What a fiasco

Has anyone sent in their mini Adamas to get fixed? What did they end up doing to repair it?

What I find interesting is that you had/perceived zero issues until watching a YouBoob video that told you you had a problem, and you needed to do something for which the knife wasn’t designed to discover this “problem”. Huh. Ok, then.

Nope, still an opinion.

It's an obvious design flaw. When a 300 dollar knife will close when the blade is accidentally banged on a table edge that's a problem. Even the cheapest of knives won't do that

Funny, 43 posts and just about everyone of them is anti Benchmade! You obviously have an agenda here.

This thread cracks me up - it’s like the flip side of the Bark River and Survive!Knives threads. On one hand, it’s ok to do business with proven thieves and con men because I didn’t get screwed, even though I admit I might be in the middle of getting screwed, but it’s still ok because I haven’t been totally screwed … yet. Anyway, I eventually got mine and it looks nice. On the other hand, I had a problem with knife X, but only after I seen it (sic) on YouTube and was doing something with it that it wasn’t designed for, so there’s clearly a problem with every knife X, even though most people don’t seem have a problem with it using it as intended. Gotta love the interwebz.

Fact: a few users had failures with their Adamas knife after doing who knows what with it (YouTube idiot attention whores beating the piss out of them for likes and subscribes notwithstanding).
Fact: most users have had no such failures or other issues with their Adamas.
Opinion: there’s a problem with all Adamas’s.

So it's ok that my mini adamas closes while in the locked position? This is a safety issue. I don't baton. I do not abuse knives or use them for anything but cutting. Let's say i own and drive a car and i think that everything is fine until I see a you tube video showing the that either of the front wheels may fall off if I hit a curb. That could lead to me getting hurt. So would be the case if a knife closes on my hand. I'm glad I seen what I did on you tube because it may have prevented me from getting injured. What could be more important on a folding knife than a properly functioning lock? We all know that strange things happen sometimes when using a knife and yes one of those things could be the spine getting whacked accidentally. Keep in mind a relatively soft hit causes these knives to close. Not intentional force or abuse.

Uh, your post count is shown along with your user name.
To be clear, I love benchmades. Especially the designs. I just don't like the quality issues. I especially love the mini adamas which is why I was so disappointed with the issue at hand.everything else about the knife is stellar

Did it ever occur to you that you might have gotten a lemon with a defective locking mechanism? Did it occur to you to take it up with Benchmade to see if they’d offer to fix or replace it, or did you seen another YouTube idiot decide that dealing with their customer support would be an exercise in futility and leave it at that? If many Adamas owners were complaining that their locked knives were closing by themselves from being looked at the wrong way, I’d agree that there’s a problem. But I’m only seeing about three, so I’m guessing that if there is a problem, it’s limited to very few examples, a bad batch of blades at worst.
