BENCHMADE ADIRA -thoughts?

I just fondled the BENCHMADE ADIRA at Bass Pro. The large is pretty big, 9”….. the mini is more normal size. 7.46”
I have to say the blue is okay and the orange lanyard needs to go…. But I really liked them both. It’s almost a Griptilian XL!

Anyone own one yet?

There is a Mini at Arizona Custom Knives for 170 bucks, it probably goes for less if one makes a reasonable offer.

I had the Mini, but found the handle a tad too short for my hands, so I bought a large here on the Exchange for a very good price, and find it just right.

The Adira is a whole lot of knife for the money.

Edit: Oops, it sold right after I posted.

I see it's marketed as a waterman knife, but it's strange to me that people thought it was a "water" knife would be fine being dunked in all this water, im not surprised some rusted inside

Benchmade literally advertised it that way and said that was the point from the start

I don't know, any of my knives that get "dunked" in water are dried out before being put away after use. I don't think that's too much of a maintenance task for anyone who appreciates a fine knife or any valuable tool.

Sibyrnes -- Absolutely agree. I grew up on the Chesapeake Bay in the 60s and 70s and all we had were carbon knives (slip joints and fixed blades). My family fished 9 out of 12 months every year on our boat. Part of our clean up was a good freshwater washing of everything and in all of those years we never had a rust or corrosion problem. Fish scales and entrails were the only issue we ever had but I was taught (nice way of putting it) to remove it all. Later in life I spent many years in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest and again, fished like a crazy man and never had a problem as long as I fresh water rinsed everything. Thankfully I had a father that drilled into me the need to take care of my stuff.

I have carried mine for about a week. No problems with it. Barman1 Barman1 these screws do not cause any issues with pocket material like the MSI. Those screws are massive!
The Large Adira carrie’s like a much smaller knife. It’s a 9” knife that weighs a little over 4 oz.
The lanyard had to go immediately. Other than that… it’s been great. Razor sharp out of the box. Rock solid lock up. Easy opening. I’ll keep you informed on corrosion resistance.

Dunked in fresh water and dunked in salt water are very different things. If I'm on a boat all day and I filet some fish on the dock, I'll rinse the knife off with whatever water is near. 99% of the time, I won't have a chance to clean the knife thoroughly for several hours.

I've carried a Benchmade Northfork on the water in my pocket. It's S30V and not made for salt water duty. I didn't use it that day and I found rust spots all over it the next day. It was most likely sprayed by salt water during the ride. So the only knives I carry on the water are the Spyderco Salt line or the Benchmade Fishcrafter.

Im about an hour from the coastline here in California but my sweat is pretty corrosive and I believe it has lead to premature rust on knives prone to, a reason why I clip my knives on the outside, that and it grants me easier access

Well, for what it's worth, I carried this slightly larger Benchmade version of Emerson's CQC-7 in and out of ocean water years ago and for a long time it was my EDC. I always dunked the thing in fresh water and thrashed it about after those ocean plunges. No rust on the ATS-34 steel after all that time.

Thus perhaps a freshwater rinse is a useful protocol for the Adira? (Though my old BM has titanium liners ... not sure about those screws, which may be little more than rusty pins, now, for all I know.)

I thought I’d add these pics. It’s been 90-99 degrees here with St. Louis humidity. I carried this every day at work walking my mail route.
I have used this for light edc tasks. Cutting straps on magazines and opening boxes. I see some discoloration on the edge and tip.
