BENCHMADE ADIRA -thoughts?

I always wonder who buys the $800 versions of a knife you can buy anywhere for $250. Collectors and hipsters, I suppose.
You are talking about a different knife you can not buy the one I am referring to for $250, unless you find a dealer that is as insane as Benchmade.

The $250 price tag is reasonable in today’s economy. I realize that Benchmade’s prices are through the roof but the price on the Adiras isn’t that hard to live with.

I handled a Mini Adira at a knife store and I was impressed with it. The only reason I haven’t bought one is that I don’t think I would like it better than my Para 3 Salt.

If I didn’t own the Para 3, the Adira would have been an instant purchase.

You can buy the regular Adira for around $250. I was saying that it doesn't make sense to me to buy the $800 gold class version that doesn't seem functionally superior.

What I am saying has nothing to do with the $250 Adira, but it is still over priced. I am commenting that Benchmade rarely makes a knife worth $800 and it is certainly not this LE Adira.

The blade profile is similar to Griptilian, which is OK to me. The handle looks very cheap. Definitely not worth $250 in my eyes.

Are we allowed to say the name of sporting goods retailers here? Anyway, this one store, abbreviated, starts with an R--- has a love affair with benchmade... and that's where I got mine at 250. For sar it has seen the ocean on a boat and other misc wetwork, I just checked it tonight for curiosity's sake, no rust, it's good to go for seafaring ways.

I’m pretty sure you can name the place as long as you don’t post any links.

I have had surface rust on mine, but nothing since that first issue. I am in the Midwest humidity from 8am-5pm.I expect everything to rust. So far so good with the Adira.

So in a nutshell - the Intersect knife (MagnaCut fixed blade) is the closest Benchmade made thing to this that you can buy and is trully stainless and meant for water it seems...

If you want salt water folder - stick to Spyderco Salt series (I recently ordered one too, for my own sea trips)...

The San Diego HQed site that offers mil/first responder/etc. discounts has the large for ~$187 and after coupon $160 plus tax and shipping. Still a lot compared to like a Hogue with frn/grivory/etc. plus Magnacut when those can get had around to $100 but a lot better than $250.

Small is $172, ~150 with coupon

People make omega springs out of MiG welding wire. I wonder how omegas made from stainless MiG wire would do? Then again, I used to take the orange N680 Griptillian in the ocean all the time with no ill effects so they may be somewhat stainless. I did rinse it off after

Spyderco goes through the extra effort and cost to find and use internal parts with extra corrosion resistance. I haven't seen any reports of rust, and the Salt version has been out quite a long time now. (Maybe someone else has(?), but it would've got around by now so I'd bet not.)
I use Salt series knives in H1 and MC in salt water when we go to Florida and have never had any part rust. Even leaving the knife in a salt water soaked swimsuit overnight.

After 2 weeks of 90+ and high humidity here in St. Louis, my Adira has developed some serious lock stick. It might be a simple fix by just working the lock a bunch, but it is pretty bad.
I believe ‘a’ mitigation for this is to put a little graphite (#2 pencil or powdered graphite in a tube) at the contact point between the blade and stop pin. It may be worth a try but I’m sure others will have better suggestions.
