Benchmade Bugout v. Mini Griptilian...

My vote goes in this order:

- Hogue Deka (better bugout IMO)
- Hogue mini Ritter RSK (better grip IMO)
- Bugout with titanium crossfade scales from flytanium
- Bugout 535-3
- Mini Grip

IMO the Bugout is a better knife if you are looking for a slim and light EDC
The griptilian design is dated and you will like to change the grivory scales for something else
Even the Bugout scales feels better (even through if they are more flexible) than the griptilian’s scales
I sold both my large and small DR griptilian for a standard Bugout and I am very happy

Dated is proven design, and no I would not want to change out the handles

Funny, I never thought of a good knife being dated.

Maybe you're right, but I reach for my mini Grip for harder and tougher tasks that I fear may be too much for my Bugout. I really hope that the Bugout is as tough as the mini Grip.
They make titanium and aluminum scales for the Bugout same as the mini grip. With either of those there wouldn’t be any worry about the scales. Even the flex that comes from the grivory ones is just mental. They’re designed to not break under normal use… and if the flex is annoying they have cf-elite scales. The blade is plenty strong. I think it started out as a concept for the light hiker, but as popularity grew better steels and aftermarket parts came. It’s really a great EDC choice. I have three.. two in titanium and one in carbon fiber.

So I think the griptilian is a better choice for you…

Personnaly I prefer the bugout over the griptilian. The bugout is not perfect but in its « light edc » category it is my favorite knife

There's been a lot of talk about how great the Benchmade Bugout is, and I agree that it is a superb knife. But, let's not forget about just how great the mini-Grip is, too. It's a hell of a knife. I own both knives, and the mini-Grip gets more pocket time. So, the question is, which one do you like better, the Bugout or the mini-Griptilian?

My vote is for the Benchmade mini-Griptilian. My mini-Grip has S30V steel, but the 154CM is good too. I had one in 154CM but sold it and got S30V steel version.
Spyderco Delica fights the winner!

Being newer to knives, just wanted to throw this plug in. More affordable new and secondary market is the Griptilian. Griptilian comes up on our marketplace often about $100 more or less for the basic ones.

Now can't wait until the Tagout comes out. The 550 or 555 Griptilian's are my favorite. We'll see if it will change my mind.

Here's the grip alongside the bugout. I purchased the mini grip on Jan 14th, 2014. I've asked that grip to do some things that any reasonable person wouldn't ask it to do. It's a seriously tough little knife.

That's awesome man, she still looks very good too! I'm glad you've gotten such great use out of it.

My opinion is if you have one, you don't really need the other. Whichever fits you best should be enough. I already had a Ritter Mini Grip when the original Bugout came out so it was an easy choice for me. Of course I still had to give the new kid a shot when BM released the Mini Bugout. I never noticed any real weight difference in pocket, or anything about it that made it feel superior to the Mini Grip. So it was gifted away to a very grateful nephew.

Truth be told, I'd take the 940 over either as Benchmade's entry into the "Best EDC" category. And it's not even close.

I like the Mini Grip okay. It is a little small for my paw. I don't care much for the bug out. The Spyderco Salt 2 LC200N is lighter and a better knife, I think.

Understandable. Speaking of the Salt, I recently bought a Spyderco Siren, and I like it. But, there's been a lot of talk about the integrity of the lock on that knife. I just got mine in and haven't really tested at all. I hope there isn't a design defect with the knife, because I love it. You ever hear anything about that?

I have a BM Grip and mini Grip in sheepsfoot blade. Bought the mini first love the blade design but the handle was a bit small. I bought a set of AWT scales for it. Bought the big Grip.......just cause......
I also have the Bugout, had to get titanium scales.
Have the BM Bailout with the aluminum handle and the Hogue Deka.
Next I want a Bailout and put some titanium scales from Rockscale design.
Yeah........I keep telling myself you have enough knives. But a great knife and titanium scales........
