Benchmade Griptilian MDP Gold Class Carbon Fiber

I only read the first page so this may have already been asked. Are the handles carbon fiber, or another material made to resemble carbon fiber. I ask this because in the BM catalog the handles are said to have a carbon fiber texture. Just seems odd that BM would state it that way instead of just saying that the handles are carbon fiber.

from the BM catalog, and why I ask the question;

With a black coated CPM-M4 tool steel blade and carbon fiber-textured handles, the popular Griptilian® has now become a collectible item.

AXIS® locking mechanism
Modified drop-point blade style with ambidextrous thumb-stud opener
CPM-M4 tool steel with black coating (60-62HRC)
Carbon fiber-textured handle with black G10 back spacer and reversible black nickel carry clip

The grind looks heavy as is the knife. The more I look at it though it looks like the wharncliff Griptilian, which is a great knife. I'm going to give this another look.

Thanks!

It has a flat grind and the blade thins out nicely. It actually comes with some of the best edge geometry I have seen on a knife. Makes for a wicked slicer. The back side of the blade is different but to me it is just asthetics that I have grown to really like. It doesn't look like every other blade which I appreciate.

I also don't find it that heavy and in line for what a knife its size should weigh. Every Benchmade fan needs to try one out because it is an awesome knife. I like it much better than the popular 710.

I have two full size Griptilians and last night I was putting my BM's in seperated storage bag. I noticed that my new one from Doug Ritter's site, had a belt clip that didn't even touch the handle.

I got the torx kit out and took it off and bent it to proper shape.

While being off, I liked the feel of the handle in my hand but for the life of me could not deploy the knife with one hand! The butt kept popping out of my palm.

I thought "D*&^ what a stubby little handle," but with the pocket clip back on, it catches on my hand and allows for one hand opening.

Anyone ever notice this?

I just got mine Saturday
This knife ROCKS its a low number #38
Here is a pic I snapped today.

DAAAAAANNNNNGGG that thing is drop dead sexy! I just might have to off my Bradley Alias for that one. Thanks for the pics. How does it feel in hand and is it substancially more solid feeling?

I actually started a post on just that subject. I prefer a knife with a clip on it because I can get extra purchase on the handle. I might try to track it down and will edit my post if I find it.

Too much! They can be had for a little over $250 online. And MSRP on it is only $400, not $500...
Bad pusher! *slap on the wrist* :D

lol yeah I can't STAND this particular Knife Shop. I only go there to wield knives I may want to buy [online] and to get a laugh at the outrageous prices they place on their blades.

Mine should be in today. Should be good company for the Onslaught I am diggin. BM looks to be getting the majority of my knife dollar in 2010 with these two and a couple others on the list

My Gold Grip has just arrived - number 185. To me, the design and build-quality of the Grips has always been golden, but this knife has exceeded my expectations by a long way.
Outstanding.

Now, where do I get a 556BK-101??

The CF makes it very difficult to photograph. You really need to get this knife in-hand to fully appreciate it.

Steven in your pics it looks like the regular grip has a fuller handle, is this the case or is it an illusion from the angles??
Thanks

The knives look to be the same width, but the CF handle has more gradual arc to the corners, so that may explain it.
I have never handled a folder that feels as good in-hand as the 551-101.

still no full length liners? does it sound hollow?

If it's hollow sounding it's going back. That is my biggest gripe with the grip. I am assuming though this CF is solid
