Benchmade Griptilian MDP Gold Class Carbon Fiber

I am willing to bet that the CF are thick solid slabs which provide the structural integrity of the knife. The only reason it has liners at all is for the AXIS lock.

The only reason the normal ones has the hollow sound is because the FRN has cutouts on the inside to reduce weight. There is some webbing which is to strengthen the handle and also probably helps resonate the hollow sound.

I think this knife is going to be awesome and the answer to everyone who has a problem with the hollow sound.

If it's hollow sounding it's going back. That is my biggest gripe with the grip. I am assuming though this CF is solid
I didn't handle one yet, but it has to be. It wouldn't make any sense to hollow out CF slabs.

The CF handle is weighty and solid. Forget the Noryl GTX scales of the Blue Class Grips - this is a different animal.

These are no way Hollow. When I say Solid Carbon Fiber they are Solid, truly a different Griptilian.

Mine arrive yesterday and finally the Grip is done right. I would like to see full length liners but this Grip is well above the rest in handle construction. I never knew though the Gold Class came in the boxes they do..... Geesh ship em in regular boxes and knock 20 off the price:) I know though that collector's like them but this will be a carry blade for me.

:D When my wife got home yesterday she saw the outer and inner box on the kitchen table. "That looks expensive" she said. Busted! :o

I said the same thing about the box. I offered to sell the box back for 20 bucks, my dealer didn't go for it.:D

I'm drooling guys! Is this only a Gold Class Knife?

It sure looks like they got the Grip "down" to what it's potential always was!

Gorgeous knife. I'm sure tempted, but would have a hard time putting it to any rigorous use.

Do any of you guys tend to not use knives like this because they're just so dang nice???

Yes Gold Class only. It's a little different than most Gold Class knives in that this one will be offered all year. There's no set limit of how many will be made.

To me, if i love the knife so much I don't want to use it... well I have to use it, otherwise I never get to experience how awesome it is.

I am still waiting for my m4 ritter... my wilkinsgrips look awfully empty at the moment...

Any updates from carrying/using these puppies? Do they truly solve the hollow/cheap feeling of the regular large grips?

I have had it for a little while and its still holding up well. I haven't really beat on it just yet but have cut up a bunch of cardboard and it still shaves me.

Yes.

I have never had a problem with the Noryl GTX scaled knives. In fact, I really like them, having found them to be hard-wearing, light and strong, while keeping the price of the Griptilians down.

However, the handle of the Gold Class 551 is very different. The liners are the same cartridge style but the handle slabs are solid CF, not hollow Noryl GTX with reinforcing ribs.

The end result is a knife that feels weightier and great in the hand.
I highly recommend it .

Unlike the regular grips, this one is balanced in the hand. Not blade heavy.

Will let you know tomorrow how it feels with an M4 Ritter blade in it. :D

Nice I am realllllly digging these and am going to have to spring for one very soon. I've loved the griptilian series since I got my first full size drop point model a couple years back. I never buy duplicates or variations of a knife platform but I have now had 7 different griptilians, 6 of which I acquired last year.

Oh man I hate when these threads make me sit down and think about how much I actually spend on knives!

This is truly an awesome knife. Skeptics need not have doubt, the cf handles are very solid and thick and absolutely beautiful. This is my favorite folder right behind my UG Sebenza. It also has a nickel clip which is another nice luxury addition. I've got everyone beat so far...mine is #13.
