Well I know the griptilian is a popular model, and alot of you guys have some version of the Benchmade Griptilian, so share your pictures, stories, and thoughts on them! I decided to make a very short video of mine just shaving soem bark off a branch...the video is more or less just a size reference to a full size grip in my hands, also included is 2 pics of my grip in pieces...I decided to take it apart to clean it and see what was going on inside...didn't take long to clean and put back together! Enjoy, I look forward to seeing all of yours!

I just bought a benchmade Griptilian. the 551s (thumb studs and a combo edge) in a black handle with silver blade. I love it. I will most likely look for knives with axis locks from now on. The blade is awesome and even though i told myself i would never buy a plastic handled knife, the handle feels good and reliable and the knife has a decent heft to it. This had become my new favorite folder.

I was doing some invasive plant work yesterday. I chipped my machete on a rock and I only had my CE Griptillian with me. It cut down 6 more 2 inch diameter trees in a 15 minute period!

Great knives, each and every one!

I love those RSK variants you got there Steven!

I love my Ritter RSK-1.

These YouTube videos are some of my favorites. (PS It's not your ears, he's speaking Polish)

I have a 551 with the opening hole. Haven't used the knife, but I like it very much. Super smooth action, no blade play at all, and comfortable grip. My only negative comment, it's too large for comfortable pocket carry and it should come with a sheath IMO.

They are excellent knives. I rate the Grips - in particular the M2 RSKs as the most practical folding knives I have ever owned. Yes, I know they have plastic handles .. and that there are sexier Benchmades, but when it comes down to the practicalities of day to day use they can't be beaten.

I love the dog in test 1. Everytime the guy digs, the dog digs, too.
"wha cha lookin fer boss, let's find it."

Nice videos. great demonstration.

I took my mini grip in D2 to mexico last week because i couldnt find my Salt1 before i left. I kept it in my board shorts the whole time in the ocean and pool. I didnt have any oil so i just decided to test the knife as is. For the first 3 days it held up great with smooth action and only speckles of rust. By day 6 there was much more rust, and the action was very dry and hard (just needed some oil). The spring inside the axis lock deteriated the most and i'm worried it might break very soon.

So for 7 days in salt water, sand, and no oil, I'd say it held out really well and with some TLC it might be able to be completely restored.

Thanks guys for sharing!!! Yeah I love those youtube vids too, I wish I knw what he was saying, but its definatly enetertaining, the guy has a bunch of other good knife vids too and soem great tests with a monochrome...

Not to hijack this thread but do some of you also own a mcusta basic folder?
The only thing I don't like from my griptilian is that your index finger is forced to be relatively far from the blade.
It's safer but for me it somehow feels uncomfortable.
Has the mcusta basic the same feature ( "guard") ?
I can't handle one before buying.

Yes, Neo I have four Mcustas and the guard/index groove keeps your finger about the same distance from the blade as the Grip. It may not be the knife for you. Now back to the benchmades!!! The Grip is one of the best EDC folders out there for the money.

Cheers,
Jon:)

He provided a translation for the 1st, 2nd and 4th ones over on the Benchmade forum.

Griptilian Axis test 1. As we can see axis works very well. Now sand. We are digging together with the dog. Knife is now filthy, all covered with sand, axis lock is filled with sand as well. But it still works, it openes and closes. We are digging one more time, now with open knife, axis lock is thick with sand. Can we close it? Yes! It is enough to slap the knife two times and sand gets out of axis, now it works quite well.

Test 2. Griptilian is covered with sand. Axis creaks and crackles but works. Now we are struggling with soil, digging when the knife is closed and open. Soil is everywhere. No problem with opening and closing. The only way to block axis up is to put some grit in it.

Test 4. Now cleaning on fresh air. It’s enough to slap the knife, but too be more precise we can use water from a river or a bottle. I just immerse grip a couple of times. Now axis works really well. It seems that I’ve disproved all the myths about axis failing to work in dirt.

awesome, thanks for posting that I do not visit the Benchmade forum on a regular basis and did not know that, Thanks for bringing it to my attention, I appreciate it! :D:thumbup:;)

The BM 551 was one of my first quality folders. One of the best values per dollar out there.

:eek:You know you guys know how to make a guy spend his money.:D I going to now shell out the money for one.:D
