Benchmade or Spyderco poll

Taking all factors into account, which company is better?

I've seen far too many spidey tips broken. I do like the tanto tips they have done though. BM gets my vote much better range of offerings.

In terms of basic cutting performance, I think Spyderco earns that title, as well as introducing a lot more models in a wider range of steel types. They also have a wider range of prices.

Benchmade makes some fine cutlery though, and I have had no issues. I have been getting some joy using the Adamas.

I really miss the 100 dollar Grip in 154cpm. It is a great working knife and served as a nice entry point into the brand.

I also like the large washers Benchmade uses.

I did not vote, as I don't believe one to be better than the other. Just different.

Why do new members always feel the need to start a Spyderco vs. Benchmade poll?

I think it's only been done a few thousand times.....

Multiple votes are allowed? Great, I voted for both.
I’ve looked for similar threads but they weren’t polls and many of them were also from years ago. A lot has changed since. For example Benchmade’s reblade fee has gone up drastically from the $20 I believe it once was. Their prices have also pissed off a lot of people

At $20 Benchmade was surely losing money on reblades, given materials, labor cost and return shipping. It couldn't stay $20 forever. By way of comparison Sypderco doesn't reblade knives under any circumstances. So what's better there?

I would like to tag on to what some people said earlier and agree that Benchmade is overpriced. 270 for a Full Immunity? Ridiculous. You can get any number of PM 2 sprint runs in exotic steels for under that price. I also like Spyderco’s locking mechanisms better. I prefer the Manix’s ball bearing lock to Benchmade’s axis lock and I love the compression lock. Spyderco gets my vote.

I like both because of their designs and the materials they use.
I far as dependability goes, I have to give Benchmade’s Axis Lock a Big Thumbs Down👎🏻
I’ve had both the mini and full size Adamas folders fail on me🤬
However, Spyderco’s Compression Lock has Never Failed on me👍🏻 It’s my Favorite locking mechanism!!!

Fail on you as in omega springs broke? Or the typical light spine wack? I have the mini adamas myself, it fails sooooo easily just from a light spine wack.

“Which is the better company” or “which knives do you prefer?”

Not exactly the same thing, but either way I’m picking Spyderco.

I have never seen a Spyderco that I liked. I have seen a Benchmade knife or two I would be willing to own. However I don't own knives from either company, and don't expect that to change. As for which is the better company? I have no idea.

O.B.

The 2 things I think of when I hear Benchmade are the Axis lock and balisongs. Both are full ambidextrous. As a left handed person that's important to me. 90% of what Spyderco makes is backwards to me.
